Ask About K-pop

This is always the dilemma I worry about!  It’s actually true for a lot more companies than just SM entertainment that I’d rather put the money directly into the artists’ pockets rather than the company’s.  Unfortunately, unless the artist breaks away from the company, there’s no way that they’re going to get paid except for through the company.  Even fan gifts and presents have to enter and be vetted by the company before reaching idols (this is probably a good idea for safety reasons anyway, but it still means there’s no direct route to an idol’s pocket).  

A good way of supporting the artist would be to help by using streaming services when they have comebacks such as on youtube or melon sites.  This will help the artist on the path to winning tv show awards without putting money into the company’s pocket.  However, if they do win, and the win equates to a cash prize from the tv station, the money will go to the company, so you have the same problem.

There is no clear solution at the moment.  What would be the best thing would to continue supporting your favourite artists, whether they’re EXO or anyone else, but just use every opportunity to make a noise about the treatment that SMent and others give to their idols.  One person who stops buying from a company won’t do anything, but one person’s tweet can change the world (it’s happened).  

I know that’s not much help but it’s the best that can be done for now!  

Personally, if I were a Korean native living in Korea right now, I would be doing my utmost to set up a Union for Kpop idols, giving them more rights and control if they were members, and ultimately allowing them to go on strike if they weren’t happy with their working conditions.  I know N-Sonic have kind of done this themselves at the moment but without some kind of workers’ union giving them rights, I worry about the repercussions they’ll face from their disappearance.

From personal experience, they will either have on-site translators to help the band/artist translate comments at the show, or the band/artist themselves will do their best to speak the native language of wherever they’re performing.  They often do a really great job :) I wouldn’t worry about it, if it’s bugging you.  Definitely not a reason to avoid a concert!

I absolutely think he would!  He’s the type to definitely see his date as his equal, and if that manifested itself physically in height then he’d be fine with that.  No effort required for kissing you on the lips!  However, he might whine at you a bit if you wore heels too much haha!

Also if he realised it was something you were self conscious about, he would do his best to make you feel relaxed about your height, because he’s kind and caring like that :3

The first thing that you should know is that “looking like a kpop idol” is not a healthy attitude.  Eunjung of T-ARA, one of the least-skinny slimline female idols was recently told that she had a biological age of a pensioner, which is what extreme dieting and tough training have done to her body.  This is so incredibly sad, because she won’t be the only kpop idol facing health problems from this. 

SMEnt decided that the two Korean members who would be joining Exo-M would be Xiumin and Chen, in spite of D.O. offering to join Exo-M.  We’re unsure exactly how much was voluntary and how much was coercion, but Xiumin was happy to be put in Exo-M!

They just needed 6 members in each group, but only had 4 Chinese (or Chinese-canadian) members for Exo-M, so had to fill the other spaces with Korean members.

I assume this is regarding the recent rumours that a particular 4-member girl group’s relationship wasn’t that strong, and the group concerned may either be miss A or Secret, according to speculation?

In miss A, Fei and Jia are undoubtedly the closest due to age, nationality, and trainee experience.  They trained together and almost debuted in the “Chinese version of Wonder Girls” before that was scrapped.  They were then put with Suzy, and later Min, to debut.  So Fei and Jia have been together through thick and thin, and also continue to promote together, such as on their radio show with Zhou Mi of Super Junior M.  

Min and Suzy are a bit harder to judge;  Min certainly has a lot of friends outside of the band, such as Amber of f(x) and Hyoyeon of SNSD.  I expect Min would prefer it if the band were closer but because Fei and Jia are so tight, and Suzy is so busy, she might feel a little left out.

That leads on to how Suzy is an extremely busy lady!  She’s the face of so many adverts and commercials, as well as being a relatively busy actress.  Given the fact that she tries to keep up a romantic life as well, I’d be surprised if Suzy saw much of the other members!  However, in line with Suzy’s personality, I would think she doesn’t mean to hurt them by this and may even feel bad about it.  I think she genuinely likes/loves her unnies but may not be that close to them just because of time.

So altogether there isn’t much chance of them being the most tight-knit group, but I think they do try.

This is wholly understandable… also the reason I personally don’t allow myself to watch any kdramas anymore!

It’s important to have a life outside of kpop culture though, so set yourself targets for maximum amounts of time you can spend on these things per day.  Don’t be cross with yourself if you go over them though, just use it as a reference for what’s good for you!

So I was kinda wondering if the girls from SnSD asked to be in a group..

I expect that the girls of SNSD didn’t have much choice in how they would be debuted, but all of them wanted to be singers/performers.

Around the time that Super Junior debuted, it was rumoured that Jessica would be the next SM soloist.  However, this obviously never happened because it was probably too close to BoA’s debut to be worth it.

So it’s possible that Jessica may have preferred to or wanted to debut solo, but in the end I think they were all quite happy to debut in a group and not on their own.  BoA has often said it can be a little lonely.
