the purpose of this post is to highlight a discrepancy i have observed with my own eyes in the MDZS fandom: the tendency to describe what happened to qishan wen and its members as a genocide, but the refusal to describe what happened to yunmeng jiang and its members as the same thing.

the fact that you have jumped from this claim to "and therefore OP is saying that the genocide of yunmeng jiang justifies the genocide of qishan wen" is, frankly speaking, astonishing.

because i'm quoting other people's words.

you made an implicit false justification.

you seem to love reading a post and then inventing a new post to get mad about. the fact that you read an "implicit false justification" for genocide in my post tells me more about your values and your views surrounding genocide than it does anything else.

that country btw is not ‘the jianghu’#the Jianghu has a very specific meaning and it is not a political unit. it’s. hmm. best comparison I can think of#is whatever the fuck all those assassins are doing in the John Wick franchise? that’s basically what the jianghu is

#and I do think what MXTX was invoking with both massacres/persecutions#was the nine generations thing#which is about wiping out an entire extended FAMILY which is absolutely devastating and horrendous in almost any cultural context#but particularly in one that heavily features ancestor worship#and wiping out a family line literally kills both the living AND the ancestral spirits#(pardon me if I phrased that poorly I’m still learning the nuances of that)#it is a very terrible thing to have happen to your family and the point here isn’t actually to downplay that#but I do think it’s somewhat relevant to the themes about cyclical violence and revenge and forgiveness

#anyway I think a lot of the category confusion going on here is western fans with no particular knowledge of Chinese history/culture/lit#not really knowing what the fuck a martial sect is (it’s much more like a school? and like schools they can vary widely#in terms of the size of group membership and degrees of wealth or political sway in a region)#and also MXTX being kinda vague in her worldbuilding and playing a little loose with both wuxia tropes#and any of the actual historical aspects of her Ancient Chinese Fantasy setting

#anyway all that said regardless of how you chose to define it#it’s uhhhh stunningly obvious that what happens to the Jiang and later the Wen are intended as parallels#and if you are downplaying the significance of EITHER devastating act/practice of mass murder#particularly in favor of emphasizing the other one#you are spectacularly missing at least one of the points of the narrative

Black Friday is the second largest (by area) bushfire in recorded Australian history. It lead to a Royal Commission on forestry management to mitigate future fires.

The fires currently burning in NSW and Queensland have destroyed 1.6 million hectares so far, which has been exacerbated by inaction on climate change and cutting of funding to fire services by Gladys "koala killer" Berejiklian.

It's frightening that only 1.6 million ha were destroyed at the time of my post, because by the end of Black Summer it was 18.6 million ha.
