If you do wash them, they have to go in the fridge because they lack this film. Countries where factory chickens are overcrowdedand kept in less clean conditions tend to get poopy eggs which have to be washed before sale, so they're fridge eggs. Countries where eggs aren't refrigerated in travel and supermarkets can't wash them prior to sale, so have to keep chickens in conditions that result in clean eggs.)
