By the way it's like. Really fucked how society's thoughts on epilepsy is just "get over it." Seizures can cause permanent brain damage. Seizures can kill people. Seizures hurt like hell. Allow me to reiterate that seizures can kill people. And you're just gonna casually put flashing lights, a common trigger for seizures in your advertisement, in your animation meme, in your edit, on your billboards, without even thinking about putting a simple disclaimer? That's unbelievable. Your little anime edit could deadass cost a life and you're not gonna put a warning because it's "inconvenient" or "people like that shouldn't be on the internet" (ableist) (the problem exists outside the internet also). Or you'll give insufficient ones like putting it in the captions or only giving like one second before the flashing lights appear, meaning that the trigger's already in motion before anyone who needs the warning can read it and save themselves from literal physical danger.
We need to start commenting under other people's posts about how to properly warn for flashing lights and eyestrain. We need to be emailing and calling companies about their possibly triggering advertisements that could induce seizures. We need to stop tolerating ableism and start speaking up for the more vulnerable.
Also, stop putting epilepsy warnings. That's like saying "warning: schizophrenia" on a post including unreality or "warning: dyslexia" on a post with a typing quirk. First off, the disability mentioned isn't the only group of people that this could trigger. Second, it doesn't truly get the message across and instead makes it worse for those with the disability-- scrolling through the epilepsy tag on Tumblr should get you to view the content of other epileptic people, but no, you just get a bunch of flashing lights and eyestrain, even though you could instead tag for, oh I dunno, flashing lights and eyestrain.
Anyways this Disability Pride, and for every month that comes after, think about epileptic people and others who are triggered by flashing lights/eyestrain. Happy pride to those who experience seizures too frequently due to the unaccommodating and ableist societies we live in!
You Have Mail!
You know, that's a funny thing. It's a thought that came to me from Harry Potter, that really nowadays getting mail is not too interesting. Since we have better and quicker ways to communicate, no human will send you anything in the mail. So you only receive bills in it, really. Lots of things that are important, some could've been an email, some are also sent by emails, but none of which is exciting. There has never been once in my life I was told I got mail that I had a reason to be excited about it.
The exception is getting packages. The advent of the Internet, besides killing private mail, created the possibility of ordering things from far away and receiving packages you bought and sent to yourself, essentially. And by happenstance, I am currently waiting for a package from abroad. However, it's not going to arrive in a week at least, because this is how things work nowadays. Which, if we're being honest, is more reliable than sending a letter a century ago, probably.
So anyway... yeah, I don't really have mail.
#interesting...#i get excited when i hear the mail slot on my door open and shut#and its not even just for stuff ive ordered or the few penpal letters i get#its also for the majority of communications i get regarding medical stuff#as well as sometimes about my gov benefits n shit#idk maybe it says something about me that i get excited about wh at is essentially just life admin but like.#idk
So. Um. It's not like you know what it is when it comes in. But since you're phrasing it this way I assume it means you get excited to read medical stuff and government benefits mail? Which probably does say more about you than anything, but also. You have penpals. I think it's somewhat significant. I might be the outlier in not having penpals, but I don't think so and it does seem to matter a little in this context.
I dont get penpal mail often, and usually I know when Im going to get it. I mainly get excited about the prospect of it being medical/governmental/other life adminy stuff because that stuff is like. a core component of my life and I'm perpetually waiting on appointment dates and decision letters and shit and that's the majority of what I get in the mail

Video summary: Tiktok by @pippabarnes - clips of a person with alopecia applying colourful makeup and other decorations to a bald spot as part of very dramatic looks, narrating now her relationship to her bald spots has developed over time
I'm gonna get phthaloplasty. Oh yeah my shit's all gonna be a serene sea green, or perhaps a tidal blue
After school care pulled me aside about my child dropping an f-bomb “without remorse” and I put on my concerned face and nodded a bunch.
Apparently he was building something with a younger kid “who really looks up to him and is just starting to make friends” and said “Hey, you’re really fucking good at this.” which is, in my estimation, really a parenting victory.
I absolutely failed at doing this:
Sleeping poorly is so embarrassing... sorry im grumpy I stayed up past my bedtime. Like a toddler
Does anyone know what to do about the temperature and also the prices

I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy the meme I made about my new shoe
me if meowing was a sin tbh
& heres me if meowing was illegal
But it’s not so enjoy
so true, here i am happy and free because nobody can morally or legally stop me from meowing
pick up that non-fiction book
not all of us can live in fantasy 100% the time like i see some people on here do and it's refreshing to learn something new. its been philosophy, essays, and history for me and i feel much more at home on planet Earth for it knowing that people have been struggling and wishing similarly for millenia.
its not that fiction doesnt have its place, its important and healthy to exercise the imagination, but non-fiction can do so much to boost and supplement that. if not for yourself, for your art or for the people you're around
i’m such a details person i hate vagueness so much let’s be PRECISE

Mark Rothko - Black no. 8, 1964.
Some time ago (I think in 2021) I had to go see a neurologist over really scary symptoms that resembled seizures. I was a nervous wreck about what I was feeling and had barely slept all week, which seemed to be apparent to the doc’s assistant when I sat down in the exam room for questioning or whatever. Dude was pretty young and soft spoken, around my age. He was laser focused doing something on one of those tablet-laptop Surface things as I spoke, presumably writing down my symptoms.
Midway through talking about my symptoms my voice audibly started shaking as I was describing them, clearly upset.
In the middle of my monologue he turns the tablet to face me, closes whatever program he has open and the wallpaper is this fucking collage of pictures of lord farquaad from shrek, lovingly decorated. Dude just sat there placidly smiling at me until I noticed and stopped dead in the middle of a sentence. We sat there in silence like this for like a solid minute before I started wheezing laughing. Before I could even say anything else or process it he picked up the tablet and wordlessly left the room, and I just sat there dumbfounded until the doctor showed up. 10/10 doctor experience tbh
I didn’t own a cell phone at the time to get a photo so this rendition from memory is all I can provide you
ID: a digital drawing of a man in scrubs sitting on a wheeled stool, serenely smiling with his elbow on a rolling cart, where a tablet is flipped open to show an approximation of the Lord Farquaad screensaver. end ID
