Seeing way too many people posting about politics this week without understanding that voting is public transit.
You don’t get on the bus and tell the driver where you’re heading for a perfect customized commute. You take the bus going vaguely in the right direction. You pick the available option that gets you closest to where you’re trying to get to.
And if the stop that gets you closest to where you're trying to get to isn't very close, then you take the bus that gets you as close as you can, and then work with everyone else who gets off at that last stop to build something that will take you even closer.
But you're all going to be more successful if you use the bus to get as far as you can first. And maybe you can use the bus ride to convince your fellow passengers that your destination is one that they should choose too.
But saying, "This bus will take me miles closer to where I want to be, but it doesn't drop me off right at the door so I won't take it at all," makes your own life harder. And if enough people who would take that bus all say the same, it will look like no one wants that and they'll cut the route altogether.
