It's truly funny how people hate new avatar content not for It's actual quality but because it either isn't just Atla 2 in a trenchcoat cosplaying as a different show or because they feel like their favorite character isn't represented.
Cuz here we have AVATAR AANG THE LAST AIRBENDER a story thats supposed to be about aangs grief about being the last of his people and weirdos are criticizing it because there isn't enough zuko in it? The movie about aangs grief and you decided "yes we need more of the person who's ancestor is the direct cause of it???
Seven havens is dropping and showed a trailer scored with south asian inspired music with a south asian inspired main character in a world that still very much draws heavily for asian culture and you have people complaining that they're trying to remove avatars asian roots?? Like saying that the south asian inspired show with the south asian inspired MC is the least asian show is so disrespectful it's crazy.
Complaining about orientalism in Avatar but then actively shunning every step they make to involve more asian and indigenous folks in the show for example recasting the VAs instead of using the og white cast is insane.
Them wanting to include more south asian characters and just more characters in general who have darker skin also isn't a bad thing.
Adding changes and exploring on the world isn't bad.
Them including more lgbt characters is also not a bad thing.
And them exploring characters who may not have gotten the shine that they deserved in atla or tlok is not a bad thing either just cuz they're not your favs.
Them not validating your head canons isn't a bad thing.
Them confirming characters who the fandom headcanons as non benders(only because they didn’t fight and no other reason) as benders isn't bad.
And like the franchise is far from perfect and well it's not lost on me that it is a franchise with heavy asian influence created by 2 white guys and of course because of something like that it's important to understand that certain decisions they make may be questionable but may not be in bad faith the way the fandom loves to portray it as.
Like for example this new Avatarian written language Bryan said that the reason they came up with it was because while the chinese characters were fine..it felt unfair to use them as the universal language of the world because the avatar world is a mesh of multiple different asian cultures so it didn't feel fair to just use hanzi. Which is why he came up with a unique language for the world which imo makes sense with that in mind....HOWEVER outright just ditching the chinese characters instead of also working to incorporate them both into the new language of course makes the decision look sketchy.
Stuff like that is what I'm talking about.
