Ilya Is a Brunet

Lestat is (understandably) upset with Louis for sharing his story, but that’s what Louis needed to do to begin to heal. Lestat needs to do the same. Secrets make you sick and Lestat is very ill. He’s holding onto trauma around his childhood (embodied the stutter), Nicky, his maker, his transformation, his relationships with Claudia and Louis.

Still digesting this episode but overall I really enjoyed it and I’m surprised by the seemingly mixed reaction. They completely re-established Lestat, got into his psyche and triggered him, so he’s motivated to talk about his past, and introduced what’s essentially a whole new world.

The Wire had such a blind spot when it comes to impoverished Black mothers. In fact, I’d say it’s not just incomplete but also inaccurate as hell. By and large, Black mothers do not want their kids selling drugs or glorifying the game. Even the ones that live in the ghetto. Hell, I would argue especially the ones that live in the ghetto. They cry, mourn, and protest until they’re blue in the face and when those same kids get caught up in the system that the mothers tried to protect them from, these mothers are the only ones sticking around. For every Brianna and De’Londa, there are 1000 Miss Annas. And the bad mothers on the Wire rarely get the depth that shitty dads do like McNulty, D’Angelo, and Frank. They just are Bad Mothers and it honestly feels like pathologizing the same community they want to create empathy for.
