At least a month ago this giant stalk of one of the cactuses in the front yard here broke free and collapsed onto the ground for no apparent reason. The guy who does the occasional gardening here has for some reason continued to not pick it up and dispose of it. I was going to do it myself the other day, when I noticed that even though the stalk fell over because it was presumably dead, a close inspection reveals that new cacti are somehow pushing straight up out of it now, sideways to the direction of its original growth. I have this big faux “diamond” that I got at an event last fall. It’s almost the size of my fist. I didn’t know what to do with it, so I set it down on one of the windowsills in my living room, figuring I would come up with a more permanent home for it later. You know: “later”... Now several months have passed, and it’s still there, because apparently we haven’t reached true “later” just yet. But there’s an unexpected side-benefit to my procrastination: every morning after the sun comes up, it beams its rays down at the faux diamond, which then scatters them all over my office walls in the form of little rainbows. This makes for a pretty agreeable start to each day! I thought I would share one of them with you here. “Ceromancy” is what it’s called when you perform divination by pouring melted candle wax into water, and then “reading” the resulting water-bubbles or wax shapes. This - the thing shown here in this picture - is not that. This is the unplanned, accidental aftermath of me being unusually clumsy with a very melted candle on top of a wooden dresser. I don’t know what it would be called if you used this for divination....but that wax splattering is pretty interesting to look at, though, huh?!
