Lavender is the annoying popular kid at school that is gorgeous and genuinely nice, and never forget her pencil. She has her own squad but they're all equally gorgeous, nurturing and calming to be around.

I got started out, as many of you did, on this aromatherapy journey because of Lavender and I has always wanted to try Spike Lavender but couldn't rationalize it since I have quite a few strains already (don't you judge). I received Spikey, the punk rock Lavender as a Mother's Day gift. It was obsessive love at first drop. Here's why.

Spike Lavender is all the goodness of regular Bulgarian lavender, all the sweetness of French, all the sweet calming of Greek, but it also is camphorous and really helps breathing, congestion, and helps open up the airway. However this type of lavender is quite gentle, and if you have to go a bit lower on other Breathe Easy oils like Eucalyptus, Niaouli this is perfect. This oil is great for sickness and stress because it clears the airways and puts you at ease. Being tense can sometimes seriously exacerbate breathing issues so it is great for when you struggle with both. It also works as an antibacterial and an antiseptic, so this will be bomb if you make your own body washes or soaps.

DO YOU HAVE CAT PEE, CHILD PEE OR DOG PEE IN YOUR HOUSE??? Read on cos I found HELP!

Yesterday, we cleaned up all the upholstery which seemed like it might be an expensive or futile job, but apparently it isn't. After we cleaned we had an asshole cat mark territory and we all almost collectively stopped breathing cos severe #asthma. I heard rumors that washing soda, vinegar & a little bit of alcohol/hydrogen peroxide does the trick. I WAS SKEPTICAL AF, but I learned from @tryguys to give things a try first. It really neutralized it and seemed to get it out. I was reading about allergies (I am only allergic to a specific protein in cat pee but not saliva cos even my allergies are #hipsters) and being asthmatic most everything pisses off my asthma so skimming an artical about pine or cedar chips absorbing & pulling up ammonia and neutralizing it, I also decided to add a few drops of oil high in pineol in my spray with lavender & lemon. It really made a huge difference. It is absolutely nuts. I used to think once it soaked in that was it but now we know.

Washing or baking soda

Distilled water warm enough to absorb the soda

A cup of white vinegar (mine was prediluted)

A spray bottle

Oils: Lavender, Lemon, Cedarwood

Alcohol or Hydrogen Peroxide (I am not chem phobe personally) & prayers. You can use a soluble instead.

Why no #teatree? Because it is poison to animals. After I sprayed and scrubbed with this I made sure all the animals were in other spaces jic.

No pee here. It is all gone. Sometimes my kids occasionally have accidents while on furniture and this also works great for that.

SIMPLY EARTH PEPPERMINT

Your favorites are going to depend on preferences, for instance, the oil that finally converted me to a fan of peppermint was not Doterra or Young Living it was a chance purchase from Eden's Garden, and now I worship the stuff. Mentha Piperita I love you!

My second favorite peppermint thus far has been from Simply Earth as it is pure, strong, but not so strong you think it can revive the dead (how I actually like it best due to Chronic Sinusitus).

Simply Earth oils always smell fresh, clean, and pure. It is a no nonsense company with great customer service. The oils are all straight forward with honest prices. I think they are a step up from @planttherapy but please remember that there are nuances to this biz that boil down to taste.

Simply Earth's Peppermint at one drop in 150mls of diffuser water will have those menthol tingles traveling around the room in no time. However, it lacks any obtrusiveness of other Peppermints I have tried in the past. My Fave Brand Of Oils

When people start to get serious about eos I feel the first question is "What brand is the best?" and it usually begins as a comparison between MLM companies whose entire world is oils. I did some deep diving, aquired oils from both mlms, and started to do my review thing. Since I was deep diving into the complicated world of eos and dealing with the nauseating amount of misinformation out there I did what I always do when there is a ton of conflicting information, serious research.

Without going down a morality rabbit hole, I will just say, that I didn't want to support any company long term that encouraged the unsafe use of essential oils or not providing adequate safety information while still taking a commission on them. The companies should be making some serious standard compliance issues and making their Wellness Reps adhere to them rather than often turning their heads on the situation.

When I found Edens Garden I was considering a cheap alternative to get some filler oils while we slowly built up our "Super Oils" slowly as the "good oils" seemed so costly, but I was okay with that if they were the best of the best. What shocked me, was having access to "The Best Of The Best" oils in generous samples might I add, was that Eden's Garden was stronger, more therapeutic and so clearly of a higher quality than the more expensive brand! How can this be true? The price and the quality didn't make sense, until I looked into it even further and saw just how much the MLM markups were. 😲

I found upon ordering a cute paisly box with starter oils in them that the company was not only a highly reputable company but was also woman-owned & run. They reached out to some of the top chemists in the field to do their third-party purity testing and had both Dr. P and Tisserand (of the Tisserand institute) reformulate their kids line. Their oils were second to none. I didn't even like Peppermint, until I smelled theirs. I appreciated they supported just saying no to taking oils internally, and provided awesome recipes.

I began reading about aromatherapy according to Certified Aromatherapists and found that much of the vocations from all over the world negated what many of the MLM's were saying, and found that a lot of it was dangerous to animals & people. I no longer wanted to support that ethos so I waved goodbye.

You see MLM's can be decent, fair, and wonderful side gigs, but when you have people without training playing doctor and repeating whatever their upline is saying there is a problem and the company compliance should be crawling for this behavior rather than turning their head or worse making print outs of it for handing out. 😡

Still, I was mainly intrigued by who, politics aside, had the best oil, and that was honestly Edens.

I have other favorite companies too thus far, but my #1 fave is Eden's Garden. There is a reason they've been voted the best Non-MLM eo company. They have fair prices, amazing high-quality potent oils, and don't support unsafe aroma therapy practices and work with Using Essential Oils Safely to keep as much compliance with safety as possible.

They score high in:

Quality - Price - Customer Service - Fast Shipping - Best Blends - Packaging - Graphics - Ethos

They could use work in:

More direct explanations of what their oils can do & providing a better customer rewards system. Could be a little more personal in the oilymail (think Chewy.com).

Basically though, they're the best. It is a choice you can be proud of.

You may have seen the ads. Happy Wax is trying to slip into the Aromatherapy market with their "Non Toxic" "Essential Oil" infused bear melts. The about story seems very touching, and involves a retired police officer serving as inspiration.

Ever since this company has invited itself into my marketing feed it has irritated the crap out of me, and let me break down for you why that is.

They try to boast their melts as a much safer alternative to Scentsy, Yankee Candle & even Essential Oils (they believe they are more cost efficient) and that they are more "healthy".

Essential Oils aren't regulated by the FDA, so to be a true essential oil the oils would need to be tested for purity, otherwise they are just fragrance oils & the fragrance oils could have actual harmful synthetics in them that they boast they do not have simply by trusting the claim of their distributor, Okay Happy Wax, prove it.

Since they won't release their essential oil wholesale company's name, which is suspect as it doesn't give away a trademark recipe to know where the source oils come from and it can only help, in their situation, I can't help but feel it is shady af.

I reached out to the company and they also clarified that they use essential oils AND fragrance oils which is not mentioned in all their ad bombs and is somewhere in the fine print, but fail to disclose what fragrances they are using, which again, may go against their claimed ethos.

Another thing that grinds my gears is that they attack parrafin wax melts that other brands use at low temps (aka they don't burn or get hot enough to release any toxins in the air) when they missed the memo that some oils can produce carcinogens that are released in the air when heated strongly. I know their warmers warm to a burn as soy wax has a much higher melting point than paraffin wax. That means their warmers burn hotter and thus can be transforming fragrances and oils into breathable carcinogens! There is a reason Scentsy warms wax and I would also like to throw out there, warm wax is less likely to burn pets & kids.

Now, everyone knows I am a fan of Scentsy & their low watt lightbulbs & melts. Scentsy also doesn't release the name of their suppliers or ingredients, so why am I annoyed at Happy Wax and not Scentsy?

Scentsy isn't trying to convince you they are a 'wellness' product. They do not make claims on using EO's in their melts nor do they try to convince you it is more cost-effective to use their stuff over aromatherapy items. The products speak for themselves.

Scentsy has a straightforward business model, a healthier replacement for the average scented candle. They aren't using marketing gimmicks based on people's paranoias.

Scentsy vets all their fragrances and chooses only the best and safest as they are a family company with a high moral ceiling.

You see, Happy Wax is trying to rope in the family aromatherapy crowd, and really the aromatherapy crowd has enough problems. From having people who bought into a company tell them to destroy their mucas membranes by drinking oils to constant drama and misinformation they have quite enough to deal with without this bullcrap.

They are using Toxicity Paranoia to sell their products. They are using people's concerns about having a healthy home & a healthy family while still being able to indulge against them. This is a very terrible way to have to market a product. Other wax companies don't have to do this to make sales why should Happy Wax?

In case you're wondering, my annoyance isn't about Scentsy Vrs Whomever because it isn't. If you want to melt some soy wax and are a person who only trusts the most natural of products, why don't you see the thousands of vendors on Etsy who do make awesome melts that will release their ingredients?

I think the science is there using a couple melts made with fragrance or even lighting a few candles isn't going to usher in your death on a racehorse, but in a time of product dishonesty I can see why some people hold this concern and take it very seriously. I don't think that should make a market for the exploitation of said persons.

Don't be manipulated by this company. Don't let them use your love of more natural products against you when they aren't being transparent or honest (what actual natural products do). The warmers are butt ugly, and all you need to use to soak up any wax is some cotton balls. Their photo of "No More Of This" with a butter knife trying to crack open a cold wax is akin to infomercials at 3 am showing people doing stuff without any common sense. You can even make your own version of that warmer at home if you're so inclined that is much less butt ugly.

Book rec. This is a great book on safety and potential hazards involving the use of essential oils. It begins with one woman's personal horror story with bad advice leading to misuse, and afterwards we get to hear experts in the field share their take on the event.

The book goes on to highlight some general safety practices that might be lacking with some distributors of the oils. It provides resources and a wealth of information for newbies, and even a great reading list for training Aroma Therapists!

Great way to educate yourself on the good, the bad, and the unspoken in the EO community. It is a fast read, so I recommend this for the casual diffuser to heavy users.

SUGARED STRAWBERRY REVIEW

Scentsy just dropped a new wax bar, and it is delicious & just in time for April.

What does it smell like: It smells very sweet and aromatic? The strawberries pop out first during the melt, but then you quickly can pick out a little fig, and some lemon. The lemon kick makes me think of strawberry margaritas, and who doesn't love a strawberry margarita in the Summertime? It is fabulous.

For spaces that need passive diffusion (kids & cats) this will add a lot of wonderful positive association scent. Scentsy birthed the wax melt standard, and their products never disappoint.
