I mean, b/c it really is! It doesn’t matter what your movement or political position is, there is no actually morally sound movement that did not start with having some bad intentions in it.

Like, feminism is one of those really ubiquitous movements, but even THAT began with white women wanting the vote b/c they were WHITE women, not because they were women. The 1910 Suffragettes very clearly argued in favor of keeping the vote racially segregated, and the only reason there was a lot of push-back against the movement was b/c the old white dudes KNEW that if they let white women have the vote, then they’d have to let black men have it, too. And then black women, and the Chinese, and then the savages! Where would it end???? And even after getting the vote, Suffragettes voted in favor of segregation, and some were known for filing false rape accusations against black men, in order to ~prove~ that black people didn’t deserve their rights.

And even after two major reforms, feminism STILL hasn’t really address its race problem, plays the No True Scotsman fallacy regarding TERFs (instead of addressing how TERFs spawned specifically BECAUSE of feminist vagina=woman rhetoric, including the entire “trans woman=man=rapist in bathrooms logic that is STILL a big problem), and the moment you mention political lesbians it’s all ~that’s their identity~.

But hey, let’s move away from feminism for a moment, right? How about Civil Rights? Well during that whole 1960s pre-LGBT scene, many LGBT POC didn’t go to the bars or w/e b/c of community backlash. So much of the Civil Rights movement was built upon highly religious community strength, which was great for getting people to band together against racism, but it also made it EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING for LGBT POC who, unlike the whites, didn’t have the luxury of getting along without community. But here we are in 2015, and now it’s all “WHITE CIS GAYS ON GRINDR ARE WHY THERE ARE NO POC” like wow great accountability there!

And to round it off, why not the LGBT scene? Which was, as we all know, originally just the Gay Straight Alliance scene, b/c trans rhetoric is FANTASTICALLY new. So for the longest time it was GSA, then LGBA, then LGBTA, then LGBT, then LGB, then no wait LGBT, and now MONOSEXISM UR PRIVILEGED IF GAY EVIL CIS GAYS OPPRESS BI PPL and ASEXUAL IS MOST OPPRESSED and I AM CUPIOGENDER DEMIRAISINSEXUAL MY PRONOUNS ARE BUR/BURG/BURGER FUCK U DOWN WITH CIS LOL.

Like, this whole “don’t associate with morally bad groups” is impossible, b/c EVERY group is morally bad to some degree. The only difference comes down to how it’s presented. You wouldn’t know that feminism spawned from the same type of white nationalism that gamergate supposedly did, b/c feminism is presented as Women’s Liberation, thanks ENTIRELY to great PR and favorable news coverage. I mean, feminists will still lament over the occasional feminazi trope on TV, but they have some of the best coverage of any liberation or equal rights group out there, like 100% let’s be real, y’know?

Likewise, the only reason gamergate is known for having spawned from white nationalism and jaded ex-boyfriend, is b/c games media (who was gamergate’s main target, despite everything else) presented it that way. The reason you view Eron’s post as ~dirty laundry~ and not calling out an emotionally abusive spouse (which many people who have been victims of abuse confirm is the base context of the post) is b/c it fit the gamergate=sexist narrative that sites like Kotaku exploited to discredit it. You don’t hear about how Zoe wanted to stop pressing charges on Eron so she could charge him in a different state, with more broad definitions of harassment. You don’t hear about how this happened IMMEDIATELY after she confessed to literally cyber stalking him, and how she tried to use her stalking him as evidence of him harassing her. You don’t hear that.

And even then, let’s look at the anti-GG side. Nobody talks about how Brianna Wu got fucking dogpiled by her supposed allies, who used transphobic and sexist pejoratives, b/c she had the gall to have coffee with Brad Wardell. Nobody talks about how SHE had to apologize for THEM harassing her. And how about the current defense squad for Sarah Nyeberg, who (at the age of 20) sexually harassed minors online, posted child porn, and even posted images of her own cousin? And let’s not forget about Zoe “I’m an expert on online harassment” Quinn, who doxxed minors for lulz on Helldump just a scant THREE YEARS AGO, and only stopped b/c SomethingAwful Forums (the place 4chan got its memes from) had more moral sensibilities than she did and closed Helldump down after a young girl allegedly committed suicide b/c of Quinn and other Helldump denizens. Or Leigh Alexander, who bragged about beating up a black woman? Or the entirety of the game journos who gleefully posted Lol Wimmenz Amirite? articles back in 2012, and now act like they’re not at fault for w/e gaming culture is.

It’s impossible to not be associated with something morally repugnant. So it’s just so funny to me that “disassociate urself from X group” is the go-to response, when those same people are willing to overlook the same shit in their own group b/c ~it’s different~.

I don’t know about ways to prevent against it, but I’m not particularly concerned.

I’m not shy about the exact city I live in.  Besides that, what are they gonna do?  Get me fired from an extremely small family painting business that I co-own?  Make getting the mail in the morning an actually entertaining experience?  Hack my family’s bank account to steal money that isn’t there?  They’d just be giving the rest of us more evidence to use against them.

You can’t do much to people that don’t have much to begin with.  I don’t gain anything from speaking my mind (except death threats, that is), and I don’t have anything to lose, nor anything to hide.  I don’t really use other social media accounts (might as well not have a Twitter, since I rarely ever post anything on it), I don’t have a Facebook, and I don’t use Instagram or Vine.  I haven’t uploaded anything to my Youtube channel in years, and the last thing I uploaded was Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant” because the full version wasn’t available.  I don’t use my dA account, I have no Patreon, no “donate” button, and I never even mention my Redbubble account, because there’s nothing on it that anyone would want.  I literally do not check either of my emails unless I sent myself screenshots from FFXI.  I don’t use Ventrilo, I don’t use Skype, I can’t run Steam right now, and I don’t use any form of instant messaging system outside of tumblr.  I don’t leave any kind of a trail of myself anywhere, so trying to doxx me would actually be a pretty pointless endeavor.  Even if you had my name, the only thing you’d find on Google is some “Community Recognition Award” that I have absolutely no recollection of receiving, let alone what the fuck it’s even for.

In any case, only corrupt and dishonest people with something to hide need to worry about exposure..

Start with what you post, don’t post the same image to two places. Never use RL information in your posts. Reveal as little as possible. I don’t really “Dox” people, but often friends ask me to find someone they lost. A friend’s highschool sweetheart- a lost date, a distant family member.

A name and a city is usually enough to find ANYBODY, especially if they’ve ever owned property, or utilities. It’s about narrowing down the results.

So be aware of what you post, try to keep where you live restricted to time zone. Don’t post the same things to a public account as you do a private one. Often, reverse searching an image, looking for an article, or otherwise- is all it takes. That’s really all “Dox”ing nowadays is.

You can’t. When you say “teach men not to rape,” first, you throw that fact that there are female rapists out the door. That’s horrific.

Secondly, you are saying that it’s others’ faults if someone rapes. “He wasn’t taught properly.” I, as a parent, plan to teach me children about sex/sexuality from a young age, and how important consent is. If my children rape, is it my fault? I didn’t “teach” them properly? No, that’s garbage.

For example, for a long time now getting drunk and fucking wasn’t considered rape. Now, it certainly can be.

Teaching people not to rape SHOULD be- “Hey, you probably shouldn’t fuck someone you just met while drunk. There will be regrets and that can be considered rape.”

Not- “HEY DID YOU KNOW RAPE ISN’T A GOOD THING?”

That said, if you assume Kojima is trying to go for some sort of commentary with Quiet’s original design, a lot of that gets lost in the redesign. I still would prefer the redesign over whatever commentary someone can piece together from how the camera and the designers treated Quiet, mind you, but that aspect - if it actually exists - would be mostly lost.

I also think the argument that she “prefers” outfits like that is somewhat tenuous - it’s always a risky argument in general, I feel, as it’s hard to separate authorial intent from character motives, at that point. The character always wants what the designer intends for them to want. And nothing else about her character really has anything to say about owning her sexuality, like Bayonetta sort of does. So this game has multiple characters that dress in a variety of ways- and as soon as you saw ONE dressed in what you deem is not appropriate, you decide it must be changed.

I had no interest whatsoever in seeing that person’s blog (hence why I didn’t bother to check it), but that doesn’t negate the fact that there are plenty of people on this site with behavior just as ridiculous and extreme.

Apologies, but the whole idea of, “He was targeted just because he was a Muslim” and the quick pandering to his family by celebrities and the like is an embarrassment. One kid brought in an ACTUAL BOMB however. For starters, you’re implying that the actual posts of these people is not an indication of their behavior.  …I would love to know, then, what IS.  For quite a few of these users, these same posts can be found archived on the internet, showing that the screencaps were in no way edited.  If you have to deny the actual words of the people you’re defending, you’re really not convincing anyone of anything–you’re just delusional, and blatantly ignoring anything that doesn’t tell the narrative you wish to tell.  Like…you want us to take you people seriously, and yet you go out of your way to not hold anyone accountable for their own conduct?  I keep hearing “Teens can know about social issues!  Teens can be mature and socially conscious!”, yet the second anyone disagrees with one, they suddenly become “a helpless CHILD!”.  And, just as suddenly, disagreement on something willfully posted to a public space inhabited by millions of other users becomes “harassment”.  I’m sure those who have suffered legitimate harassment in their lives truly appreciate having the value of their suffering lowered and trivialized just because a bunch of ignorant, privileged teens can’t handle criticism, and honestly don’t belong posting to the internet unsupervised until they can.

You need to understand something:  We are NOT against who you are.  We are against YOUR BEHAVIOR.  If you actually cared enough to notice, you’d find that a lot of people against SJWs actually hold most of the same values.  We talk about injustice.  I was personally incredibly crestfallen that events such as those in Ferguson would still take place in 2015.  What we disagree on, however, is how those values are being represented.  Hatred will only beget hatred.  Since I don’t care to repeat myself, I’ll simply link you here, though I doubt you’ll bother to read it (if you’ve even bothered to read this far), since that seems to be a common trend on this site.

I’m a bisexual French/Lebanese woman who used to consider herself a proud feminist.  In all honesty, I once used to think just as misguidedly as a lot of these people when I was a teen.  I even used to spew misandrist bullshit.  The only saving grace was that there really wasn’t such a thing as social media at that time (we only really had chat rooms and Yahoo groups), so I didn’t have the chance to permanently embarrass myself for millions to see.  However, I still eventually took it upon myself to actually research the things I was interested in, rather than just blindly believing whatever I was fed.  It’s honestly hilarious that you’re insinuating that I “know nothing about social issues” when I actually understand these people a lot more than you, or they, wish to believe (I’ve even expressed sympathy for those who honestly didn’t deserve it), and have gone out of my way to learn the truth behind the false statistics that are being used to keep women in unnecessary, subservient fear.

I was raised in the 80′s and early 90′s.  This was a time when the LGBTA community was finally starting to have a positive voice, even though they had a FUCK of a lot to overcome at the same time.  Do you know what the public dubbed AIDS/HIV when it became widely known?  They called it “The Gay Plague”.  Just imagine what that must have been like, and realize the strides that were achieved in spite of it.  This really hit home to me, since I had a gay godfather (who, in the event that anything happened to my parents as a child, would have become my caregiver).  What’s more, minorities were finally receiving more recognition and representation in the media than ever before.  You act as though I was raised a conservative in Texas in the goddamn 1950′s.

I LIVED through a period of “politically correct” language.  This happened in the mid-90′s, and ended up becoming a laughingstock, especially when a few of the groups that those with severe white guilt were trying to rename took offense to anyone trying to make those distinctions for them.  On a slightly related note, since you might not be aware, a recent poll found that two thirds of the black people interviewed prefer “All Lives Matter” over “Black Lives Matter”.  People wanting to care about the well-being of all human beings should never be treated as a negative.  And yet…tumblr.

The funniest thing of all is that you seem to believe that us big, mean “anti-sjws” are all “cishet white males”, or are only expressing the opinions we do because we “want male attention” (Yes, I’ve been told more than once that I apparently can’t think for myself as a woman, and must be a slave to the penis for disagreeing with modern “feminism”.  And you people call US the “misogynists”?).  The fact of the matter is, we’re just as diverse as you are.  You don’t think there are trans people speaking out about this?  Lesbians?  Minorities?  If anything, that’s genuinely offensive, because you’re implying that we can’t think for ourselves, and need you to do it for us.  Many of us make an effort to see and understand where you’re coming from, but the most we receive in return are threats, ad hominem attacks, and lies being spread about us.

Tumblr used to be an accepting place.  No one cared who you were, or how you identified.  People DID speak, and others LISTENED.  But that just wasn’t fuckin’ good enough for some people, and now those same people have turned aggressive and militant–even lashing out at their own friends–in order to stand apart from the crowd.  If you can’t recognize that there is emotional manipulation and psychologically abusive behavior happening on this site, then you sure as fuck ain’t been here long.  That, or ignorance truly is bliss.
