Misogyny?
Conext - I went to a pajama dance party, I am 19y.o girl, feminine presenting, sometimes I look college age around 20-23 for some people
So I was talking to my acquaintance(let's call him Ace) at the party, a bit of general politics, then we moved to clean energy (I'm going into a similar field), wind turbines, some stuff about electric vehicles. Then we moved to my science fair project. I can't remember what exactly happened, I think I was mumbling something to Ace as I was looking for my data.
THEN, this fedora dude comes in. I think he's related to someone. it's like a family party, but I don't know half of them. Asks Ace for his name, asks where he's from, who he's related to and then finally asks me for my name. Then starts talking with Ace about where he is from. Happens so, that my favorite singer is from there, so I mention it, yk trying to get back in the conversation. Ace responds and tries to think if he ever heard of him. As he's saying about potentially knowing the artist, FEDORA MAN interrupts and starts talking about other artists from that region, completely ignoring me and not looking my way.
I stand there for a while like, yk thinking of joining the convo somehow, but I don't know those artists, unlike Ace who is also a millennial. I stand for a while in hopes to join the convo, eventually I circle to the kitchen to get a snack, when I pass them to get to the dance floor. They're talking about electric vehicles :). Fedora man also had something about aerospace on his robe. I wonder if he heard us talking about it before coming up. Like I'm sorry?
I don't want to say he bluntly interrupted the convo, but he completely ignored me trying to join the convo and didn't look my way when I was talking or trying to join, eyes on Ace. Sooo I was confused as to, did he think I was too young to talk about such stuff or if I am a woman and yk don't know about such things. Obvi him overhearing our convo is alleged as it was pretty loud. It just felt weird and like, why just ignore me?
So was there some misogyny or am I just sensitive. As someone who is aware of misogyny in scientific spaces, it made me uncomfy. I assume he also was from a scientific space based on his shirt, but you never know. The way he was talking was also giving a fedora men tone of voice.
I obviously know some people experience way crazier things than me, like blatant misogyny. I just wonder If I am overreacting or onto something 0.0
pls be kind
