Brittany posted this adorable picture and joked about how Maddox is “down for the cause. #BlackPower” and immediately began to get flack from people saying “What about white power?!”, etc, etc. She got frustrated and deleted it. I’m re-posting it because 1) It’s just stinking cute but, more importantly, 2) If this offends you as a white person then you are the most prideful, self-centered person on this planet. I try to be sympathetic and understanding to my fellow white people who are blinded by their privilege (I’ve been there and thought the same way as you) but when you are so self consumed with yourself that a jokingly cute picture/caption (which was obviously not staged, it just accidentally happened) offends you then I have no time for that level of ignorance. You’re so obsessed with yourself that you can’t see the hurt it causes people when you try to “speak up for yourself” aka wash out any acknowledgement of a systemically oppressed minority group of people. And for what reason…so you can be further validated and the center of attention in a society and culture that is completely catered to your interests and needs?! This upset me because an innocent, adorable picture/jokingly written caption can lead some people to spew ignorance in the midst of their blind pride. Praying for a greater understanding of humility and empathy in our culture.
