To be quite honest with you all I do think that aro/ace-spectrum fans in fandoms where people are desperately inventing crossover ships and humanizing non-human characters in order to have a conventionally attractive guy to ship the main character with, instead of possibly having to enjoy a story with no romance in it, have the right to refer to everyone else as cowards.
me, not knowing im aroace yet: lmao when i get in a relationship i do NOT want to kiss, or even hold hands in public,
*Kicks down door and breaks into your house* BE AWARE OF ASEXUALITY BITCH!!!!!!
On this week, one year ago, I came out for the first time, to my best friend. Her good reaction encouraged me to be progressively more open about it ever since. Today Iâm able to confidently say it: Iâm ace, Iâm proud, and the world can die mad about it. Happy asexual awareness week you beautiful people! Love, support and respect your ace-spec friends and relatives!!
(Click the images for better quality. This comic and this story really mean a lot to me and Iâd be forever grateful if you could reblog it! Thanks!)

Shout out to all the confused aros who are having a bad time trying to tell apart romantic attraction from anything elseâŚâŚ It will go away
Hey, I just wanna say: Romance-favorable aros and arospecs are great! Itâs totally ok to enjoy or want romance, or to experience occasional romantic attraction, or to participate in romance. Youâre absolutely NOT any âless aroâ for it, nor are you inherently contributing to amatonormativity or any bullshit like that.Â
There are NO requirements for how to behave or what to like or dislike as an aro, and arospec people are not any lesser than textbook aromantics. Anyone who says otherwise can eat a rock
Oh wait I can be aro but want a romantic relationship????
Yeah, of course!! Thereâs no rules about what aros can or cannot want. All it means is that you donât, or rarely, experience romantic attraction. Whether or not you want romance is irrelevant.
This is an excellent post. Behaviour and attraction are different! Just like allos can choose not to date someone, aros can choose to date someone. Just like allos can be attracted to someone but not enjoy dating them, aros can have no attraction to someone but still enjoy dating them.
Yâall are valid.
[ID: A two panel meme. In the first panel, a person asks âOkay, was anybody going to tell me that some people can actually be sexually attracted to literal strangersâ. In the second panel, they finish their question, saying âor was I just supposed to think that was a made up trope forever?â. End ID]

wanting and not wanting at the same time
a comic for asexual awareness week
bringing this back today for the start of pride month. still overwhelmed by how well this comic went down and with how many people relate. itâs easy to think aro-ace people are all totally accepting of their identities and really proud of who they are. i guess on websites like this you see a lot of people proudly putting their identity in their bio, a flag in their profile picture.
in fact i think a lot of aro-ace people really hate that part of themselves, hide it, and struggle for a long time to âacceptâ who they are and feel any sense of âprideâ. thatâs the feeling i wanted to capture here. the disappointment, the loneliness, upon realising that you canât feel what is such a wonderful thing. the embarrassment of not being ânormalâ, of being some random sexuality that nobody irl has heard of, and letting down those around you because you canât be who they want you to be. how desperately you want to change, how desperately you want to feel. but you just canât.
i know not all aro-ace people feel like this. i know lots of aro and/or ace people feel able to be in relationships, to feel closeness and have partners in other ways. but i think itâs important to be aware that some aro-ace people do feel like this.
the comments on this comic have mostly been great but a few have been very frustrating. a comment it got a lot was along the lines of âaw!! you donât need to have sex to be in a relationship!â. you completely missed the point, hah. this is not a comic about sex. itâs about a lack of feeling, the lack of something beautiful other people seem to have. another comment that popped up a few times was âmaybe sheâs a lesbianâ. well maybe lesbians and aro/ace girls have more in common than people think - maybe they both often struggle to accept that they feel no attraction to men, even though society has conditioned them to do so, sometimes spending years trying to force themselves to like men in that way, when they just canât.
this comic is called âwanting and not wanting at the same timeâ because she wants to love. but when it comes down to the reality, she canât fulfil the requirements of that. she wants to love someone forever, to get married and have children and grow old with her soulmate, but she doesnât want it with this person. or that person. or anyone she meets or will ever meet. a sort of catch 22, i guess.
hope that makes sense. thanks for listening, and have a lovely pride month â¤ď¸
Coucou câest moi
âshe wants to love someone forever, to get married and have children and grow old with her soulmate, but she doesnât want it with this person. or that person. or anyone she meets or will ever meetâ
Well shit I didnât need to be called out like that
[Image description: a series of screen shots of a stand up comedian. They read âWe have romanticized the idea of romance, and itâs cancerous.â âAnd when you raise children in that world, where everything points to loveâ âand everythingâs perfect on the outsideâ âwhen we become an adult for the first time, in out late teens and out early twentiesâ âweâre so terrified. Weâre so trying to be an adultâ âthat some of us will take the wrong person, the wrong jigsaw pieceâ âand just fucking jam them into out jigsaws anywaysâ âdenying that they clearly donât fitâ âIâm gonna force this fucking person into our livesâ âbecause weâd so much rather have something than nothingâ]
So the first part of the Arospec jacket is done which is the aroace and alloaro flowers, which im pretty happy with how they came out. Iâm planning on doing the arrows next which im pretty excited about . Â
I have a weird little question for the queer aspec side of tumblr: why is the ace color purple and the aro color green, but the aroace colors blue and yellow-orange? Why isnât the aroace flag a purple and green flag?
The blue and orange aroace flag was specifically designed for those who donât feel like their identity is split between being aro and being ace, but rather experience it as a whole identity. There are aroace flags that are a combination of the green and purple flags though, for those who feel different.
Also, the blue and orange are between the purple and green on the color wheel (in opposite directions). See this post about the colors and how/why the flag was designed as it was.

Being a sex-positive personally-sex-repulsed ace is weird cuz like reading about sex? Awesome. Writing about sex? Not much more intolerable than writing about anything else. Sex is good. Sex is normal. Sex is only as important as you let/want it to be. Kinks are natural expressions of sexuality. Sexual purity is a scam. Bodies are nothing to be ashamed of. Sex work is no more exploitative than any other kind of labor. If you touch me I will throw up on you.
Sexuality crisis triggered (I knowâŚ. the color scheme is pretty heavy handed but such is my right as an aroace person)
Whole thing under cut :)
