by default i write in fem!reader pov but can also write in gender neutral pov upon request.

i don’t write angsty endings because, well, we live in a terribly sad world already jdjxdbjsb

but this so called friend of yours looks at you like he wants to kiss you, holds your hand under the table, traces circles on your thigh with his finger when you're nervous, tucks your hair behind your ear… and the list goes on.

people have been noticing (and talking, because people are gossiping freaks) but to your dismay and growing frustration, when asked about the nature of your relationship yuno only shrugs.

to be fair, you never really questioned him about the status of your relationship. but with yuno’s ascension to vice captain, you become more and more worried about the attention he was getting from other women.

worried to the point of going insane.

"you're losing sleep over it, y/n. you really need to talk to him." mimosa said.

she's right. this has to be addressed as soon as possible.

but yuno is evasive; so skillful at dodging the important questions, so good at slipping between your fingers like sand. and you let him anyway.

“we’ll talk later.” he pats you on the head then flies away.

but that later never comes and you feel yourself spiraling.

jesus christ y/n. get a fucking grip, you thought.

mimosa could sense the change in you and thought of catching you before you truly hit rock bottom. and so she yanked you out of the headquarters and took you to the capital—girl’s day out, she said.

as you strolled around the plaza, your mind kept wandering back to yuno. mimosa had to steer you back to reality every now and then.

“y/n, y/n! let’s go to that cafe i told you about a few days ago!”

“oh, right. lead the way, mimosa!”

you silently thanked her for her persistence in keeping you from falling apart.

as you collected your drinks from the counter, a pack of rowdy black bulls hollered and asked you to come sit with them.

“mimosa, y/n! it’s been a while!” noelle chirped, scooting over to make space for the two of you.

while everyone was in their own universe talking or sipping their drinks, you too slipped into your own yuno centered world. not a single noise from your surroundings could keep you away from your thoughts. noelle quirked an eyebrow and elbowed mimosa.

“is y/n okay?” she whispered.

mimosa hesitated, unsure of what and what not to say.

“well… y/n has…” she moved closer to noelle’s ear. “…boy problems.”

noelle snorted, quite loudly actually, but you didn’t move an inch. she was no stranger to boy troubles herself but it amused her how tormented you seem to be.

“y/n, what flavor did you get?” noelle spoke as loudly as she can, hoping to get your attention.

“hm? oh… um… blueberry.” you were slammed back down to earth. you noticed that the ice had already melted but the drink itself was untouched

“not to your liking, i suppose? perhaps you’d like mine, it’s strawberry!”

“oh, no, it’s alright noelle. i just don’t have the appetite for anything, is all.”

noelle turned to mimosa. “that bad, huh?”

to which mimosa just nodded, a sad expression on her face.

“i should have ordered that instead!” asta exclaimed, staring at the cup in front of you.

“you can have it if you want, asta. i didn’t touch it anyway,” you smiled.

outside the cafe, the troubler happened to pass by. he came from patrolling the borders and was on his way back to the base but upon spotting you decided to pause his journey. he stood there peering through the window.

who’s this you’re with? mimosa and… black bulls? conversing and laughing with asta?

yuno frowned. maybe it was the fatigue catching up to him but he felt a sudden pang of irritation.

but he continued to watch. he saw you push your drink towards asta, your hand still there. in the process of grabbing it, asta’s hand enveloped yours and momentarily brushed against each other. you looked curiously at his hand, and turned it over. asta was explaining something. you nodded along, your fingers tracing the calluses on his palm.

that was the last straw for yuno.

he pushed the door of the cafe forcefully and stomped his way towards you and your companions. when he made his presence known, the unsuspecting black bulls members greeted him as usual.

“hey, yuno!” asta greeted him cheerfully. yuno ignored him, his gaze steadily on the intertwined hands on the table.

asta’s smile faded and quickly retrieved his hand from your grasp. he laughed nervously and scratched his head, finding ways to get away from the tense situation.

both noelle and mimosa gulped and placed their gaze elsewhere. you on the otherhand felt a flood of emotions inside your ribcage. you forced the floodgates of your heart shut but leaks were there regardless.

“y/n.” yuno finally spoke.

“what?” you say, not bothering to look up.

“we need to talk.” he spoke calmly as to not cause a scene.

“oh now? i’m kind of busy. maybe later.”

yuno sighed—that lengthy, deep sigh he does when he’s annoyed or getting impatient.

and so the floodgates finally burst open.

“you’ve been delaying this talk for days, yuno. now i have to agree to your terms because suddenly it’s convenient for you?!?! that’s not fair! and let me remind you, WE’RE NOT EVEN TOGETHER!”

you stormed out of the cafe pushing your way past the crowds. but yuno is faster. he caught up to you and held your wrist.

you tried to wriggle out of his grasp but he wouldn’t let go. you sighed dejectedly and turned to face him. yuno slipped his arm around your waist and carried you to a nearby rooftop.

“i’m tired of playing this game, yuno.” you rubbed your temples. “why do we keep doing this?”

“i know, i know. i’m sorry… it’s just—”

“i get it, you’re not ready. yes, i’m well aware.”

yuno said nothing. you looked at him from the corner of your eye. he seemed to be lost in thought. you pushed on.

“look, i think it would do us both good if we just end whatever it is that’s going on between the two of us—friendship and all.”

“no.” he blurted out.

you knit your brows in confusion. “what do you me—”

“please let me speak, y/n.”

you hesitated but nodded anyway.

“today i realized some things: that my feelings for you are stronger than i anticipated…”

he smiled softly.

“…and that i cannot bear the thought of you being with someone else.”

oh!

you searched his face for any sign of insincerity, the anticipation of him taking back his words was throbbing in your chest.

“that is the truth?” you manage to say.

“yes.” he breathed out, still holding your gaze. he looked as if he was pleading with you.

his words seemed to be genuine but you cannot shake the fear that lay in the back of your mind. you’ve been a willing participant in this game with yuno for months. and now that you’ve decided you no longer want to be held a prisoner of your feelings for him, he stands before you confessing his feelings—words you longed to hear. you just couldn’t believe it.

“what is it?”

“i just…” your fingers fiddled with the hem of your skirt. “i’m quite torn…”

yuno frowned. “then how can i help you make up your mind? tell me, y/n.”

you looked straight into the distance. “i don’t know… and frankly, i don’t know what i want anymore…”

he sighed, running his hands through his hair. a tense silence hung in the air as you watched the capital lights twinkle below you.

“y/n…” he sighed. a shiver ran through your spine as he delicately spoke your name. “if you want me to walk away, then i will.”

you open your mouth to speak but shut it quickly, realizing you don’t really know what to say.

“i know i hurt you numerous times and for that i’m truly sorry.” he continued. “i like you, i really do. i came here with one goal in mind—to be wizard king. falling in love with you was never part of my plan.

“no matter what i do i couldn’t stop thinking about you. i thought running away from my feelings will ease the burden but look at where that got me.

he chuckled.

“i’m sorry, y/n. i didn’t mean for it to end this way. i—” he licked his lips. “i will make things right. just please give me another chance.”

you slowly faced him, your doe like eyes glassy and heart beating rapidly. you were so in love with him.

“you promise? no more mind games?”

yuno exhaled. he didn’t realize he was holding his breath as he watched you.

“yes. i promise.” he cupped your cheek and kissed your forehead.

your defenses finally collapsed. he pulled you close as you sobbed and cursed him again and again for those agonizing months.

yuno chuckled and thought, i probably deserve that.
