Akatsuki no Yona Gaiden 4: The Queen's Wind
The chapter opens with Gulfan returning to Suwon. Suwon welcomes him home, asks if he had fun, then wonders where Hak is, figuring Gulfan had been with him the whole time.
Back at the palace, Hak returns from his trip and goes straight to Advisor Keishuk's office to look for Queen Yona. Keishuk tells him today's supposed to be her day off after working nonstop on state affairs. Hak says she wasn't in her room, and Keishuk explains she already left the palace with Meinyan and Val.
While Hak is still there, officials keep interrupting Keishuk with reports about the South District's waterways, invitations, and other work. Keishuk complains that Yona's stamina is seriously endless. He finally got her to take a break, only for her to head into town saying she wanted to inspect things. He also grumbles that before he could assign more guards, she'd already disappeared.
Hak heads out to find her. Soon after, Keishuk learns Hak already went after Yona. That immediately puts him at ease.
Out in the castle town, Meinyan offers Yona a drink and assures her the water's safe now. Yona's relieved since there were reports about contaminated drinking water before, and she's happy to see the town looking lively again.
Meinyan reminds her today's supposed to be a day off, but Yona immediately starts talking about checking the South District's waterways anyway.
She instantly tells everyone to run.
Val thinks she's spotted some dangerous enemy, but Meinyan says if Judo catches them, there goes their day off... and their chance to drink.
Around the same time, Hak runs into Judo while searching for Yona. Judo's shocked to hear Yona went into town with only Meinyan and Val because nobody told him. Hak says those two can handle themselves, but he'll go look for her anyway. Judo refers to Hak as the thunder beast and tells him to keep him posted if anything happens.
As Hak leaves, Judo remembers the day Yona became queen.
Back then, Judo offered his resignation as General of the Sky Tribe, believing he had no right to stay after helping overthrow King Il. He even asked Yona to punish him.
Instead, Yona asked if he couldn't accept her as queen.
Judo immediately denied it, saying she was the only one fit to rule Kouka.
Yona then explained that Geun-tae had stepped down as General of the Earth Tribe because of his health. With a younger leader taking over, only Judo and Joon-gi remained as veteran generals. She admitted Kouka now looked vulnerable from the outside, but said she wouldn't keep dwelling on the past anymore. If rebuilding the kingdom meant working together, she'd do whatever it took. All she asked was for Judo to lend her his strength.
Back in the present, Judo admits to himself that Hak probably still doesn't trust him, and he doesn't blame him. Hak has become someone even more important than just Yona's right hand. From now on, Judo believes supporting both of them is the only way he can atone for the past.
He quietly tells the soldiers not to make a scene while searching, then jokes they should check every tavern in town because that's probably where Meinyan is.
Elsewhere, Zeno's already drinking when he runs into Yona's group. He calls her your majesty but Meinyan quickly reminds him they're keeping a low profile. Zeno immediately switches to calling her "Miss."
While walking through town, Yona notices Blue Dragon Village masks being sold. Zeno says either merchants have started buying them from the village, or the villagers themselves have begun selling them. Either way, it means the Blue Dragon Village has finally started opening up to the outside world. Hearing that quietly makes Yona think of Shin Ah.
The group puts on the masks to blend in with the crowd since the night market is about to begin. Yona realizes there's only so much she can learn from reports. Walking through the kingdom herself lets her see things she never would've noticed otherwise.
Meinyan gets excited about the festival while joking that drinking in secret while hiding from Judo is the best.
Meanwhile, Zeno complains he finally understands what a hangover feels like and has no idea how everyone else deals with it. As they browse the food stalls, Yona buys a snack Hak used to get for her during their journey. She admits she's been too busy with royal work to think much about those days, but the taste brings all the memories back. Then she looks up... and spots Gulfan flying across the sky.The moment Yona sees Gulfan, she suddenly takes off running after him. Zeno calls out, confused by how fast she disappeared.
As she runs, she remembers asking Suwon a while back why Gulfan hadn't been around. He'd simply said Gulfan had gone out for a while. Looking at him now, Yona quietly realizes he'd probably been with Hak this whole time.
Someone suddenly reaches for Yona from behind, but Meinyyan and Val react instantly, stepping in before the person can touch her.
Hak smiles, praising Meinyan and Val for protecting her so well. Looking at their Blue Dragon Village masks, he jokes that they're playing Blue Dragon Village.
Yona's surprised he recognized her so easily, but Hak just says, of course I would.
Even Meinyan and Val are impressed. Val jokes that Yona's real bodyguard is on a whole different level.
Zeno finally catches up, completely out of breath, complaining everyone's way too fast.
A moment later, Suwon arrives too, panting and sweating. Yona asks what he's doing there.
Still catching his breath, Suwon says he followed Gulfan.
Zeno immediately asks if he's okay.
Yona welcomes Hak back and asks how his trip went.
Hak says Shin Ah is now working with the Wind Tribe. White Snake has started doing business, and droopy eyes somehow ended up stuck.
Yona lights up hearing everyone's doing well, while Zeno has absolutely no idea what happened with Jae-ha.
Hak then shares what he learned during his trip.
Many places are still struggling with damaged roads, stalled trade, and people who can't find work. Yona immediately asks him to tell her everything.
Meinyan quickly reminds them today's supposed to be a rest day. Hak also shares one piece of good news. He found someone with connections who can import much needed medicine from South Kai. Then he brings up an idea.
After everything he saw, he thinks Kouka should start opening new trade routes with neighboring kingdoms.
Suwon immediately says he's been thinking about the exact same thing. He pulls a folded map from his pocket, sits down right there on the ground, and spreads it open.
Zeno can't believe Suwon actually carries a map around with him. Suwon explains that trading with the Kai Empire is still too difficult, so they should first connect Kouka with the Kingdom of Xing and the Kingdom of Sei.
Yona likes the idea, but points out the kingdom doesn't have enough money for a project that big.
Suwon says they wouldn't need to pay for everything themselves. Merchants and wealthy investors could fund the roads in exchange for priority access, bringing more money into Kouka from both inside and outside the kingdom.
As Hak listens, he quietly realizes something.
Without planning it... he and Suwon reached the exact same conclusion. For the first time in a long while... they're finally looking in the same direction.
The discussion continues as Suwon points to a route through the Kaikai Mountain Range.
Hak points out the earthquake changed the terrain there and suggests going through Kazami Village instead. It may be a longer route, but new hot springs appeared after the earthquake. Hak sits down on the ground, across from Suwon, to carry on with their talk.
Suwon immediately asks if the land or crops were damaged.
Hak says everything seems fine so far since the area used to be an old hot spring before it dried up.
Suwon realizes the village could become an important hub someday.
Before they can keep talking, someone suddenly grabs Suwon from behind.
It's Ogi. The second he sees Suwon, he bursts into tears.
Suwon looks confused and asks what's wrong.
That only makes Ogi even louder and annoyed.
He yells that Suwon disappeared from everyone's lives without saying anything, then casually shows up again like nothing happened. Calling him a carefree tofu headed idiot, Ogi says he's not letting him get away this time without talking. Suwon politely apologizes... then says he doesn't actually have time.
Watching the whole thing, Zeno thinks that's pretty cold considering Ogi's crying because he's happy to see him again.
Meinyan quietly feels bad for Ogi too.
Not long after, Judo finally catches up with everyone.
Relieved to find both Queen Yona and Suwon safe, he says it's getting late and the streets are getting crowded, so it's time to head back.
Hak immediately steps beside Yona and tells Judo he'll personally make sure Queen Yona gets back safely.
Then Meinyan suddenly jumps onto Judo's back.
She pulls one of the Blue Dragon Village masks over his face and starts inviting him out drinking.
Judo immediately refuses since he's still on duty.
Meinyan just calls him an idiot and Judo got annoyed. Nearby, Zeno cheerfully waves goodbye to Hak and Yona.
Suwon starts leading the still emotional Ogi away.
Judo keeps trying to shake Meinyan off while insisting he isn't going drinking. Once everyone leaves...
Yona quietly puts her Blue Dragon Village mask back on.
Now... it's finally just the two of them.
Hak and Yona leave the busy streets behind, still walking hand in hand. Hak asks if she's really enjoying wearing the Blue Dragon Village mask. Yona says she actually is.
Hak asks if they're heading back.
Yona said not yet and they should walk a little longer.
As they keep walking, Hak notices something.
Yona's wearing the same outfit she wore during their journey.
He says it's been a long time since he's seen those clothes.
Yona smiles and says putting them on again made her feel surprisingly energized. Hak mentioned that Advisor Keishuk said her stamina seems endless.
Yona said keeping up with the Hungry Bunch back then, that's probably what made her so tough. Yona asks if seeing those clothes reminds him of their journey. Hak says it does. Not just because of the trip itself, but because back then he often wondered if those days were only a dream. He also believed touching her was something he should never allow himself to do.
Yona quietly tells him something she's never fully put into words before. Even back then... she loved him. At first she didn't realize those feelings were love, but once she did, she fell for him more and more every day. Hak doesn't say anything. Instead, he gently takes her hand and leads her somewhere no one else can see them.
Keeping one arm around her waist, he slowly removes her mask saying to show her face and calls her as Princess. Then he kisses her. When they pull away, Hak softly calls her Princess again. Yona immediately turns bright red and asks why he's suddenly calling her that.
Hak says it's because she's dressed like that.
When he asks if she doesn't like it, Yona says she's just embarrassed because hearing him call her Princess makes her shy. Her reaction catches Hak completely off guard.
Unable to help himself, he kisses her again.
To himself, he decides he's definitely going to call her "Princess" every now and then.
After another quiet moment, Hak gently calls her Your Majesty. He asks her to allow him...
just a little longer. Then he corrects himself, for as long as he's still there. Yona catches what he means and repeats his words. Hak finally tells her he wants to travel around Kouka again. The kingdom is still hurting. There are still bandits, corrupt officials, and places that need help. During his latest trip, he realized there are countless things only he can do by seeing the country with his own eyes.
He says Yoon, Shin Ah, the White Snake, Droopy eyes, and even Queen Yona have all found new ways to help Kouka. Now he's found his too. His new dream...
is to make sure Queen Yona's rule reaches the people.
Yona quietly repeats his words to herself, that her rule is reaching the people. Hak says that's his dream. Yona smiles and tells him she's counting on him.
Hak asks her for one thing in return. Whenever she needs him... she should call.
No matter where he is or what he's doing... he'll always come back. Yona agrees.
Some time later, Hak gets ready to leave again. He seems visited Yoon and he gave him a special medicinal ointment he made himself. Hak thanks him. Yoon simply tells him not to get hurt. Hak nods and heads off.
Back at the palace, Keishuk learns Hak has already left on another investigation. Yona explains there are officials suspected of exaggerating disaster damage to receive larger relief subsidies. Keishuk says the military could handle that.
Yona says she's already given Hak permission to arrest corrupt officials on the spot if he finds wrongdoing.
When Keishuk questions it, Yona says no one else can be her eyes. She also tells him Suwon already approved it.
Keishuk accepts her decision and says a role like that deserves an official title.
The chapter ends with a montage showing everyone's new place in Kouka. Minsu continues studying and working with Yoon. Zeno is still slacking off as usual. Suwon quietly works through documents with Advisor Keishuk beside him.
Jae-Ha continues working under Lady Nene. Yona heads to the morning council with Meinyan and Val.
And somewhere far from the capital...
Hak is already traveling across Kouka again.
The final page shows Hak and Yona smiling as they carry out their own duties.
They're no longer walking the same road together every day, but they're still working toward the same future.
Yona remains in the palace, leading Kouka as its queen.
Hak journeys across the kingdom as the Queen's eyes, making sure her rule reaches the people while protecting the future they're building together.
Thank you for reading Akatsuki no Yona.
The final Hana to Yume Comics Volume 48 will be released on October 20.
i know some of yall might be disappointed with this ending. i'm kinda as well, i eally wanted that hakyona wedding and idc if people think it wasn't necessary. that's just my preference. to each their own. but i still liked the ending overall. i like where everyone ended up. if you think it fumbled, that's fair. if you think it was perfect, that's fair too. just don't be weird about it. healthy criticism is normal. don't harass the mangaka or dunk on fans just because they don't feel the same as you. we've all been following this series for years, everyone's gonna take the ending differently. if you loved it, enjoy it. if someone didn't, let them be. not everything has to turn into a fanwar or whatever 🥰🙏🏻 - @iluvluvnutella
