Cover is UP! The stunning art is by @eliotbaum.
Call Me Traitor is the story of a living weapon fighting her way towards personhood and the awful lesbian she's doing it with. I keep calling it 'the sapphic Winter Soldier wizards' book despite being told we can't put that in the blurb.
STORY:
So this is the book I have spent the last few years on! I think it's the best thing I've written. I am both nervous and hugely excited. Reblogs massively appreciated if that is your thing, and if you are inclined to preorder, they do help me out a lot with my publisher, but I completely understand that not everyone is in a position to. All interest treasured and appreciated!
(Also: HOW gorgeous is this art! I am unspeakably in love with it! How it captures these two idiots so accurately, and the incredible dawn clouds and the mountain and the sea. I pushed for Eliot Baum for the cover ever since he was among the initial artist suggestions because of the gorgeous way he does characters, and this both showed me that was the right choice and also completely blew me away. Highly recommend the follow: @eliotbaum. I am also a big fan of the title design, which is by Jess Kiley!)

jay gatsby more like gay jatsby
happy belated tdov! drew these a while ago and they are once again unfortunately relevant
"patroclus and achilles were lovers!" "patroclus and achilles were best friends!" alright have you considered... queerplatonic patrochilles.
your friendly neighborhood knight in stolen armor
hey guess who just learned that the queerplatonic vibes between achilles and patroclus in aristos is very much intentional!!! realizing that this is probably why i as an ace person connected more deeply to this interpretation of them than any other adaptation, aaaaanyway thereās just so much queer joy and love in every part of this show and it gets me every time <3 something something putting the queer in queerplatonic since 1200 bce

they should invent gay characters that can successfully run away together
And there's also this one!! A new number for Middle Patroclus called "Fathers and Sons"! AND I can actually mostly keep up on guitar now š
Lyrics below the cut.
yes hello iām still thinking about that part in interlude II where middle patroclus wraps the blanket around achillesā shoulders. the blurring of past and present by grief. a grieving achilles finding a momentās comfort by the ghost of the boy heās always known, meanwhile a teenage patroclus about to leave for war who already knows on some level how this story will end. the amount of narrative awareness patroclus has, especially when contrasted with middle achilles, who in an earlier scene takes the blanket from his older self seemingly without noticing his presence. patroclus, who knows how this story will end, and follows achilles to war anyway, versus achilles, who until the moment of patroclusā death never quite stops believing that they will make it home together after all. it just works so well with that one line from memory. say that there were two boys who raced each other to the sunrise. say that one went too far, and the other went with him. the way that applies to both of them. they will follow each other to death. iāll probably draw this scene at some point but i had to get carried away with the analysis first
2025 was bananas, but I'm happy to report that 1. art waits for you and 2. I'm a little better at guitar now.
Anyway, here's me noodling on Odysseus' new Act I aria. The night before Patroclus fights in Achilles' armor, Odysseus considers the cost of homecoming (lyrics below the cut).
OH ALSO let me know if you recognize the motif being quoted š

iphis and ianthe :D
i feel like this myth is such an interesting example of how definitions of queerness change over time, like itās such a deeply queer story that simultaneously doesnāt fit neatly into any one modern label (and is of course a product of its time as lesbianism just wasnāt a recognized thing at least in the surviving works)
and yeah i had to use the sappho quote for this one
ok so i just learned that that sappho fragment is not a poem in itself but fragments of three separate lines that were all that remained due to water damage and i just. to have your only words that are remembered be themselves a call for remembrance. in addition to most of her work being lost due to linguistic drift. i have Feelings about this ok
