💙 One of the biggest mistakes of the western gnostic tradition was its belief that there are two gods, one good god of the spirit or light, and a one bad god of the material universe.

❤️ It raises the dilemma of who do people pray to when they want something worldly. Indeed most prayers are for worldly things: a new job a new house, better health, more wealth - in this dualistic system most people’s prayers are to the bad god!!!

🕉 The eastern Gnostics avoided this problem by maintaining their monotheistic view that is only one God, and the “two creations” are not good vs bad, but instead higher and lower realms. A higher spiritual energy and a lower material energy.

🕉 There is no need to judge the material energy as bad or sinful, things just are what they are, and the material realm serves god purposes according to his will.
