I am an external archivist of @themisanthropichoax but I also would like to have my own place to put things. Given I am fronting when the ask is received I will answer and actually drink water, we are so utterly dehydrated.

I genuinely enjoy typing formally like this. Also, I struggle with tone at times.

See unfortunately for me my taking things literally extends to my lyrical analysis abilities, but I will make an attempt anyway because this song means a lot to me. If you know nothing about it, it’s a song made by Chonny Jash, apart of his album “Patchwork Doorstop Paranoia”

From what I have gathered in the four hours I have been looping it and actually listening to the lines, I believe the song is about how being ‘an idiot’ can actually be more freeing than being ‘smart’

“If the idiot suffers no pain / Let my dunce cap be stylish and cool” I believe this line is meant to express the depressing truth to awareness. Intelligence is very linked to awareness much like how stupidity is linked to obliviousness, and my own opinions on the connotations of that aside, awareness is inherently depressing. The more you are aware of everything around you, including the bad things, the sadder you become. Especially when you are not a higher power that wields the ability to make changes to better reality.

This point is furthered by the following lines, “Each thought will weigh upon my shoulders / Each question, steepen up this hill / And as the years beckon me older / I become easier to kill / And soon enough, I will be crushed under the weight / Of that on which I ruminate”, I believe what the character in the song is ruminating on, questioning, are the poor parts of reality. The death, starvation, injustices. Being aware is metaphorically killing him and dampening his mental health. He’d rather turn a blind eye if it means being pain free.

However, this is ultimately not much healthier. While it is beneficial to mental health and you should and can take a break every now and then, if you continue to turn a blind eye to things you are aware of happening, you cannot help to rally change. I believe this is why the song ends on the lines, “So let fumes run the face / Of the local disgrace we call / April's Fool”

For lines like “They say that it's seasonal, but they've swapped the tags / ...But hey, one out of twelve ain't bad” and “He gets one month a year with a semblance of cheer / And he's running out of fuel” I think it is obvious to say he is talking about depression, but it could also be reasoned he is allowing himself to be April’s Fool only, he spends a month turning a blind eye to help his mental health, and for the rest of the year bares the weight of reality.
