ANDREW GARFIELD for Ellesse.
( I just got screamed at for correcting our mother for calling honeydew cantaloupe so that’s how my day is going right now how’s everyone else? )
boy would i love to be somewhere safe enough that i can be visibly queer and not be terrified once in a while.
I watched the interview (with a very weird sounding English dub).
The interviewer asks him-“what was it for you in this script? What did it say to you? “Yes, this is my return to Romania in a way.”-”
He responds- “It was an opportunity to speak Romanian. To explore a story a story of family of immigrants. Well, as a person separately, as an actor, I’ve had these thoughts for a long time. To have a family, to have children, how to raise children. What kind of education. There comes a time where you find yourself more suited for moments where you can actually say “yes, I’m ready to take on that project. To explore that subject.”-”
*(😒.. sure dude)*
Him after talking about his character-“it’s our parents who influence us a lot in the end.”
He talked about his Romanian roots and his experience with the crew and how it made him emotionally. And how speaking Romanian everyday with the crew/ team gave him a special feeling of family or familiarity that he hasn’t felt in a long time and he didn’t know about it. And that being around the crew and staying in character helped him find the Romanian in him again.
At one point he says- “I am who I am, and whether you like me or not, that’s it.”
*(😬 oof.. dude)*
After talking about the film he said- “I mean, I try to discover something different every time with each role. Not only about myself, but about another, about the world. About subjects, to somehow edit myself, to be different. I mean I don’t want to repeat myself in how I am.”
*(🤨 so that’s why you repeatedly take dark characters?)*
Interviewer- “You had several transformations for this movie, you went bald, you changed your teeth.”
Him-“Maybe until the end of Cannes, we’ll also go through the hair here.”
When asked about transforming for roles- “Yes, because the idea is that if you don’t recognize yourself in the mirror, a door opens that somehow gives me a freedom to explore other worlds. It’s like it’s easier to leave yourself alone, because it means not thinking about yourself, and thinking about what to do and the character you are playing.”
Interviewer- “You also talked in this festival’s magazine about these thoughts that you have about what it means to be a better man. What does it mean to you to be a good man and a good father in the end?”
Him- “I think patience is very important, I think acceptance is very important. To show up for the family, to show up for.. to be present for the family. For those, for your values, for your truth. For those who love, for those who are close to you, that is to show up, to stand strong and upright and say, “For this, I will fight and die.” I mean, how would it come, but it’s integrity. And what I see a lot now is the people, and you know more.. blame men. It’s a habit that happened, where the world changes from right to left. It depends on how the wind blows. And I actually think life is actually much more, not that simple. You have to understand how to actually look in the mirror and be able to put your truth. That’s not.. I don’t know, I think it’s very easy.”
*(Bro.. I mean, wtf was that? Just him trying to sound deep again. Also- “For this, I will fight and die.” BRO be for real, you aren’t “fighting and dying for Annabelle. )*
Was this a great interview on his part, no. But was it also just complete dog shit.. no.
It did crack me up that he really talked about showing up and being present for the family, when HE is trying to take on so many new roles right now as an expecting father.. and the mother of his child didn’t even fully show up for him and stay to watch his movie.. 💀 the “Blame men” part.. sir come on, have you not seen this whole alpha male manosphere BS?
ALSO, didn’t you claim to be raised by your single mom (and grandparents) because after your parents divorced, your dad fled the country because he was wanted by the Romanian authorities.. (in his Vanity Fair article from 2025 it says- “His father later disappeared completely, going into exile in the States. Constantin Stan was a cargo-ship worker who helped fellow countrymen evade government persecution that pervaded Romania in the decades after World War II.” And Stan says. "My parents were part of the youth that were standing up to Communism. My father was helping people escape the country illegally, to the point where he was a wanted man. And he himself had to flee.")
Yeah.. he might need a media training refresher course.
JFC.
Thank you for this. I may not bother watching it now. 🤣.
From what I'm gathering, this sounds like the same interview he's been giving for the last year.
The same talking points.
The same "philosophical" word salad.
The same vague, deep sounding answers that somehow manage to say absolutely nothing at all.
There were a couple comments that made me go, "My guy... what are you doing?" but for the most part it's just the same script again.
At this point, I don't think he needs a new interviewer.
I think he needs new material.
I swear this man has been giving the same interview for a year straight.
The only difference now is that occasionally he forgets which version of the script he's supposed to be reading from.
You don't have to read my blog to know what the public conversation is.
The conversation is everywhere.
What's fascinating is watching people get the feedback and then decide to do more of the thing people are criticizing.
Bold strategy.

Breaking news: local journalist discovers biceps. More at 11.
Call me crazy, but if your interview teaser contains more bicep shots than interview content, I'm gonna assume the celebrity is the product, not the conversation.
Can't wait for Cartier watches to be shoved down our throats for the next two weeks. AGAIN
