Okay so clearly I've underestimated y'all

So how about we make this more interesting?

When I made this post, it was supposed to be a joke

I mean, none of my posts ever get more than 20 notes if I'm lucky, so what are the odds of one reaching 666k? Impossible, haha

But then, something happened, something I didn't expect

People actually began to... like it? And... reblog? And comment?

Before I knew it, my notifications were swarmed with comments after comments after reblogs after comments all on this one post

Then, still in the mindset of this being a joke, I realised I'd made the goal too easy, so I upped the stakes

But... the notes just got more frequent from there

And it started to hit me just what was happening

For a while, I was overwhelmed with a feeling

A feeling I wasn't used to

It was like... all of a sudden... I mattered...

My existance was actually noteworthy

People actually... cared?

It wasn't a game anymore, it was a race to assure a stranger on the Internet that they were actually worth something

Hundreds of people all gathering in one online place to help out

Leaving messages and well wishes

Making me smile

Making me laugh

Funny comments

Jokes

Fun facts

Even simple comments

It all suddenly felt so real

This was never a joke to you

This was important

And I won't let any of that go in vain

The way that *most* people reacted to that—it’s unacceptable, she’s claiming oppression and history that isn’t hers, no one took her seriously or played along with the delusion—is how radical feminists feel about trans women. It doesn’t matter that Dolezal worked for the NAACP and was therefore actually working on behalf of black people; it doesn’t matter that she “feels black” on the inside. It’s a denial of objective reality.

The other best analogy I can make is to the story “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. It often feels like people are caught up in this shared delusion and we just can’t fucking understand why everyone’s lying. When people say “there’s no evidence a trans woman has EVER attacked a woman in a bathroom” when the evidence is RIGHT THERE, easily accessible. When they insist that certain trans women pass or even “look better than an actual woman” when... no, they clearly don’t, I don’t know why you’re lying, who is that helping?

Here’s an anecdote just to demonstrate how harmful that line of thinking is:

My mother is a sweet woman, and totally unplugged from the social media zeitgeist/any discourse. She’s also super progressive and liberal. When the Rachel Dolezal story first dropped, my sister was talking about how awful it is, and my mother—again, completely guileless here—said something to the effect of, “Oh, I just try to be accepting! Like if a person is transgender, I should respect that, so it’s the same thing!”

My sister went OFF on her. Actually made my mom cry that night, by calling her racist because it was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and how dare you compare them. And there’s m poor mom, sobbing that she thought she was supposed to be accepting of everyone and she doesn’t understand. Honestly, that night was like my pre-peak, because I kept thinking about it and could only arrive at the conclusion that my mom was wrong about transracialism, but that meant she was wrong about transgenderism, because there isn’t any difference.

As a note: I have no problem with men who want to wear feminine clothes or heels (except for the fact that heels are really bad for you, so no one should wear them, but that’s your choice). I’m also fine with trans women calling themselves trans women. My issue comes when they start calling themselves “female” and demanding access to our safe spaces and sports teams, and insisting they weren’t socialized male. Radical feminists aren’t calling for “trans genocide”; we’re advocating for people to just be gender-nonconforming without claiming that changes your sex. And for acknowledging objective reality, which includes:

1. Males as a group have a physical advantage over females in the sports our society has created, so we need sex-specific sports organizations to prevent women from being completely cut out of sport.

2. Male patterns of violence do not change even when the man transitions, so we need female-specific shelters, prisons, bathrooms—and crimes committed by trans women need to be classed under “male” crimes, to avoid artificially inflating female crime statistics.

3. With the advent of self-ID, the concept of “transition” becomes irrelevant, because any man can claim to be a woman at any time, and therefore invade women’s spaces/speak over women on women’s issues/take up women’s spaces in quotas.

(There’s more, obviously. But I’ll start with that.)

Radical feminists don’t hate trans people for being trans. We want such people to get the mental health support they need, and to do what makes them comfortable, without undergoing surgeries or medication regimens that will adversely affect their health. We believe that if we were raised in a world without oppressive gender roles, trans-ness wouldn’t need to be a thing, because every person could just be who they are without being concerned that their specific personality traits align with the stereotypes of the opposite sex.

when men designed the hierarchy of gender, do you think they just picked out some random qualities out of a hat and assigned them round robin style between men and women?

or maybe, just maybe, they designed masculinity to be about strength and dominance in order to create a system that ensures their supremacy? maybe they chose qualities to assign to femininity because they want women to behave in meek, docile manners and focus primarily on how visually and sexually pleasing they find us?

and then they claim that these bullshit stereotypes are some innate natural sense born in to us, in order to claim they are biologically superior?

brain sex has been debunked over and over. 

masculinity is a social construct, not innate.

femininity is a social construct, not innate.

these ideas vary by culture specifically because they are socially constructed, and they always exist as a hierarchy because patriarchy pervades cultures all over the world, not just white ones.

the whole reason gender exists is to tell people how to live, to put people in to boxes and explain to them how to acceptably behave–who are their social superiors/inferiors.
