An Ounce of Eternity

Have you ever had to live through the trecherous slump o downward slope, you have, haven't you? Have you had the courage to smile through the strife? Accept it with equal eqanimity as you welcome success? No (that's a big no for me, at the least. But, here I am cultivating an #attitudeofgratitude ). For when this Universe doesn't give up on me and gives me a fresh slate of chances each new day, who am I to doubt that these roadblocks aren't temporary, and that certain lessons ought not be ignored? That is what Hope is to me - today - for a couple of days. A belief that even in the microcosm of nothingness, utter dust as you say, one tiny flicker of ray will reflect (sun) light and brighten the room (of life). The year began with quite a tumultuous start for Mother Earth, starting with Australia on the east (fact: bush fires started in Sep. 2019), then USA v. Iran, and now even Canada v. Iran - and closer in the Indian backyard - the riots and the consequential (unnecessary deaths) and entire debate of right and wrong & Govt..v. Us. So I wonder sometimes, what if - what if there was no wrong - what if EVERYONE saw the other as a part of themselves, the entire world as One Unit - every strand of grass, every river - every milimeter of flora and fauna, perhaps every atom - as per of this dysfunctional 'Me?' As the Upanishads puts it - the world is one family (Vasudev Kutumbakam) or as J. Krishnamurthi says - we are one to be refrained to define ourselves with boundaries of nationalities, religion, caste and only then war would cease. Do you believe a world of White is possible? Words fail me today and emotions over-flow. There would be many more posts dedicated to this person - my Guru, my mentor, my friend, my 77 year old son who lovingly called me Ammijaan. This birthday I realized - That as much as I love flowers - I no longer want them carefully Crafted in bouquets - I want them growing Silently in my midst. And that's the birthday wish for me. Hey ya'll! I know I haven't written in a while and I apologise for it. Writers' block you may say, among other things. This concept however, has been hovering in my head for quite some time. I believe, as humans we have much to learn from nature - and just from the magnanimous flora and fauna - but the much forgotten tiny creatures/insects and even seeds. We are all made up of frailities. But in this supposed perfect world of social media -- we have forgotten to emote. We have became the 'cooler' generation - with even 'cooler' hearts, having frozen our hearts, and relegated it to some dusty corner behind the ribs, we never visit. In this constant state of success, our hearts have forgotten to witness the beauty in the ordinary. But that's the thing, the extraordinary cannot thrive without the ordinary. So I'll bare it out (even if you won't) - (i) I sometimes just stand and stare at the sunsets, the setting sun saddens me, and overwhelmed by it - I simply cry, (ii) little children and animals (especially dogs) teach me how to laugh and love respectively, (iii) words are not hollow angles for me, they represent the person uttering them and their words are enthused with the emotions. I am sucker for the ordinary. I have terribly missed this - writing. Call me a drama queen, but when I don't write, I feel a part of me is being stiffled. And no matter what the reason, it will never be enough to prevent me from writing. It is as though, my breathing has been retarded. (I told you I can be a drama queen about this!). Even though, I have had plenty of ideas on my hiatus, but I suppose, this one made sense. This page has been on a hiatus on account of certain personal reasons. There has been a boom of content (which I have noted on my phone/diary) and shall share shortly, but the attack in Pulwama attempt sort of got to me. That tomorrow, which is a Promise of Hope - Of unending joy. Where humans see the colour of blood And not the colour of divinity - Where relationships are defined my love - And not by expense and ego- Her naive heart asked - Is it tomorrow yet? Because these humans... Have tainted Her today. While, I bow my head in prayer for all the jawaans, my heart says a prayer for Adil Ahmad Dar and his parents, who will have to live with the tagline -"parents of the terrorist". It is deeply saddening that the political turmoil in the valley has resulted in young kids joining terrorist factions to be able to support their families. Lack of employment opportunities, stable environment, easily paves the path of terror for them. I often wondered, when I read about such news in the papers, that can a 20 something really harbour so much hatred to take someone else's life? It is US, who remain silent, the supposedly intelligent ones who should be held accountable. For not participating enough. Be willing to create a change in this world. While we claim our rights from our country, do we remember our duty? Inshallah, may his soul attain peace. I often wonder, what is the purpose of war. Why is it necessary? Who is good and evil in today's Kalyuga, any way? I don't know about you, but self-love isn't something that comes naturally to me. That is precisely why we seek happiness and contentment in the external stimuli - relationships, money, power et cetra. To somehow feel relevant. (Perhaps this page is also the consequence of a deep-rooted need for acceptance! Shall think on that!) Like I said, self-love doesn't come naturally to me. And if you know me personally, you know that i tend to go out of my way to make people around me smile. Yes, I wear my heart on my sleave. Yes, on 8 out of 10 occasions, my heart is broken, but those rare 2 are totally worth the pain. But for any of that to happen, I need to be able to love myself first. If I cannot do that, how will I be able to spread love around, on a sustainable long-term basis? 2018 taught me that. I hope I have many lessons to learn in 2019 too, not as brutally as this one was taught though. Apologies for wrecking your Monday morning. Ones already laden with disdain for the commencement of the week and work for another 5 days. I feel your pain. Even though, I live in a developing country, I think I only live first world problems too. But that's not the point today. I read about the blast in Damascus, capital of Syria, which took place two days ago. And it still doesn't cease to shock me, that, for what joy are these terrorists (legitimate cover and branded terrorists!) conveniently target innocent population? What really is the more-than-a-decade long war about? I am enraged, would be a gross understatement. A famous sanskrit phrase is - 'Vasudev Kutumbakam' (the world is one family). So, it terribly saddens me that one part of my family is mindlessly using weapons of mass destruction on another part of my family. I hope one day we realise that we can use the same material to build bridges of love, instead of weapons of destruction. I hope we find a way to commidify love - probably then the 30% of world's budget would be used to researching and developing love instead of weapons. But the point to this post is - that if we, as humans have the power to 'choose', the power to exercise our will, why do we choose pragmaticism over that leap of faith?
