Fanfic, headcanons, crack, art, general nerdery and roleplaying. This is what happens when a veteran roleplayer and sci-fi writer joins a fandom late. Me: early forties, disabled, ND, write for a living and as a personal calling. Smooching ghouls (except Ahzrukhal and Eddie Winter). Haunted by the muses of a stoner revolutionary, a brainwashed commando, a fully digitized Wizard of New Vegas, and a hardboiled synth detective. Not to mention a batch of weirdos I made myself. This blog is anti-doxxing, anti-harrassment, anti-suicide baiting, and anti-cyberstalking...and so is the law in most countries. Character lists here: Fallout Canon Muses Fallout OCs

So being a medical cannabis user and general enjoyer of the herb, I of course downloaded Cannabis Commonwealth for my new Fallout 4 game.
Now, Cannabis Commonwealth is a great mod. Lots of thought was put into it, and the growing mechanic is about as close to realistic as you can get with this game engine. Also, the plant models are gorgeous. And it’s funny as hell when I have Morgan light up a joint and she stands there smoking and literally refuses to do anything else until she’s done. Relatable, especially after 210 years…
That said, there’s only one flaw to the whole experience. One tiny thing that left me frustrated and going on wild goose chases for days. That is: I couldn’t figure out who in the hell in the entire Commonwealth was selling buds and seeds.
Now, for those who have installed this mod and are faced with the same question: Rachel, Dr. Forsythe’s assistant down in Vault 81, is the sole person that I have found with the hookup. Apparently, she’s been running a little side business behind everyone's back. She restocks every 48 hours like a standard merchant, and each time her sale list includes at least a few buds and types of seeds.
I found this out completely by accident after checking every merchant, trader, doctor, and drug pusher I could think of and going on multiple wild-goose chases. Vault 75 has a giant chem stash according to a junkie’s note? Look there. Vault 95 is notorious for its huge stock of prewar chems? Let’s try there. The big losers in this whole exercise were the Gunners, which was hilarious.
I’m just imagining Gunners seeing a furious Minutemen General in full colors plowing her way through two of their bases, including their vault of origin and secondary base of operations, while they try to figure out which of their many, many crimes has actually brought her wrath down on them.
Gunner in Vault 95: This is a general alert to Headquarters and to all tertiary bases and squads within comm range. We are under attack by the Minutemen General, her second in command, three robots, and a dog. Lock down all bases immediately and prepare for attack.
Gunner in Vault 75: Mike, what the hell is going on over there?
95: It’s Corporal Miller--oh fuck it, I’m probably gonna die anyway. It’s a complete shitstorm, Joey. She’s reprogrammed most of our robots to add to her force, our turrets are shut down and our recruits are dropping like flies.
75: Oh God. What the hell caused this? Is it because of Quincy? Or our attacks on her settlements?
95: It could also be retaliation for when we kidnapped her buddy Jake and beat the shit out of him, or when we killed Old Paul, or when we interrogated The Ron including breaking bones and snatching his wig…
75: …wow. We’ve, uh, done a lot to piss her off, haven’t we?
95: Yep. And there’s no telling which one was the last straw…
Morgan, meanwhile: WHERE’S THE FUCKING WEED YOU TIN-SOLDIER ASSHOLES I KNOW YOU’RE HOLDING OUT ON ME
After crippling our Fallout 4 with an obscene number of Bethesda-sourced mods I could never get into a proper load order, the hubs and I buckled down, learned how to use Vortex, and each got our own profiles with our own mod choices.
I no longer feel like a dusty old fail-gamer, and I can once again play Fallout 4 without it crashing to desktop every ten minutes! Now if I could just figure out why some of these mods don't work at all in my current load order...
ANYWAY. If anyone has mod suggestions/favorites, lay them on me, please! Right now I'm playing a Minutemen/Railroad run-through loading StartMeUp and Sim Settlements 2. Basically doing a Morgan (from my OC list) playthrough.
if yall haven’t already, you might wanna download fallout 4 script extender and the mod configuration menu if you plan on doing a bit of modding. plenty of mods have these as a requirement. theres a few other popular “baselines” that are required for other mods, so always be sure to check those requirements!
if you’re using nexus to install mods and not doing it manually, id also suggest getting a mod load order sorter like LOOT. nexus is lovely but doesnt always put mods in the...greatest load orders so having an external tool make sure no problems are being caused can be helpful, especially when you start getting into the realm of 30+ mods (which will happen. this is a threat and a promise)
for a minuteman playthrough i really enjoyed we are the minutemen, immersive settlers, recruitable settlers, settler/companion dialogue overhaul, and northland diggers resources. all of these just kinda increase QOL when it comes to settlement building & minuteman interactions, and they work just fine with SS2. there’s lots of mods that add plenty of little things to decorate settlements and if i put all the ones i use here we’d be here forever.
for general ~aesthetics~ and other little player-immersion things i like journal of the sole survivor, autumn overhaul, automatic lowered weapons, and campsite. for clothes i adore eli’s armor compendium. the outfit whisper wears is based on the railroad agent jumpsuit from that mod. they also have mm options, and WATMM has other minutemen attire available! also photomode. not sure where else that would fit in but its fun and i recommend it
because ive been playing fo4 since release (shudders), ive found some of the combat becomes a snooze fest on my subsequent playthroughs, so i like stuff that adds a bit of difficulty. survival options, true storms, and better locational damage are my top 3.
reddit is your best friend for questions. modding is fun and one day you just have a few and then you have 300. that is just what happens. again, this is an omen. enjoy!!!
Oh, this is awesome. Thank you very much. I wasn’t even aware of about half of these and now I need to go investigate them all. I’m definitely going to take your advice on several of them.
Gary Golden from VTM Bloodlines and Dean Domino from Fallout New Vegas/Dead Money. Two snarky, scheming old divas who got beat to shit by the Ugly Stick in the process of becoming immortal, still insist on wearing tuxedos, love booby traps, and are always Up To Something. You know they would end up trying to murder each other within hours of meeting. But the conversations leading up to that would be pure sarcasmic bliss.

I wonder if anybody has ever just cosplayed Deacon by following random people around a con in a bald wig and sunglasses, changing clothes every ten minutes and casually saying “hey” like absolutely nothing weird is going on when he’s caught at it
"Tonight I;ll be uh,, reading from my diary from a few nights ago.... He was tall and had strong muscley arms... kissable mouth and brown eyes... OY STOP PULLING THAT FACE AT ME, where was i"

Fallout New Vegas, but Lanius is such an utter himbo that various Legion officers are forced into Legate-sitting duty to keep him out of trouble. He’s nearly indestructible due to being just as badass, but he’s naive, terribly polite and has just the one braincell.
Oh, and Caesar often makes Vulpes look after him because Caesar’s a sadist and nothing pains Foxboy more than stupid...
One thing that has seriously contributed to my sense of peace and my enjoyment of my time online is doing everything I can to make sure that people cannot contact me anonymously.
As an example, prior to turning off my anon options on Tumblr, I was dealing with at least a few nasty letters including suicide baiting every single week. The perps seem to have mostly been Antis, antifeminists/male supremacists, and (oh the irony) Tumblr’s particularly virulent breed of radfems. None of these have sent even one single note to me since I turned off anon. Not one.
Bullies are cowards. Tumblr bullies know deep down that they are being horrible, toxic dicks, and they don’t want their actions associated with their online identities. Otherwise they have to deal with the consequences of being shit-tier human beings where people can see it.
Sure, they could go create a throwaway account or something to cover their asses. However, most of them are lazy as well, or too out of their heads with buttrage to do something like that when they want to attack.
My point is, why make it convenient for online bullies to come after you without risk of consequences? Turn off anon access if you’re being targeted by online bullies. Chances are, the nasty notes in your inbox will dwindle significantly. It seems like such a simple thing, but many people don’t think of this, and for me, it’s made a huge difference.
