god yknow i used to be scared to say it but I've gotten over the self-flagellating white guilt mentality and can confidently call out women of color for never addressing their internalized misogyny now.
The number of condescending black women who have posted more about the white lady being shot than they ever posted about black girls being shot is ironic. the posts are talking down to, or talking over white women who have been preaching about male cruelty for decades only to be dismissed as "fat ugly feminazis" while black women preached about "holding it down" and latinas preached about how they "still know how to treat and respect men", ect.
I grew up in a VERY mixed family. I am a certified mutt. I can tell you it's only me & my half-white mother interested in feminism. My latina & mixed family members still cling to "traditional values" and "knowing how to hold down a man" on a near daily basis.
The irony of black women taking the very lessons white women have preached about after being up close and personal with the worst of white men for centuries, then turning around and acting like they miraculously discovered those things themselves, when that's exactly how men take credit for women's work & activism.
I grew up being the only feminist in a POC/mixed family. I guarantee you 90% of the other feminists I've interacted with up until very very recent years were also "ugly fat white women".
The white guilt and need to smother myself when criticized kept me from saying it for years but the blunt truth is most women of color were complacently happy trotting along at the sides of gross men up until recent pop stars made feminism trendy--i.e. the influx of black women suddenly calling themselves feminists after That One Beyonce Performance. Before that if you asked anyone to describe a feminist they would always describe an unattractive white woman "just angry because she's ugly" ect.
I grew up in a mostly latino family & all black neighborhood, going to almost exclusively black schools. It was mostly young, often alternative or queer, white girls writing and talking about feminism while older black & latina women mocked them and defended their own abusive husbands in the name of traditional love and "knowing how to treat men".
Like I cannot stand the flipping of the narrative now where suddenly these same women of color want to pretend they were the feminists all along and these poor dumb little white women just never listened to them. I'm tired of walking on eggshells and pretending I don't see hypocrisy just because of white guilt.
Like, really? Are we fucking serious? The blunt truth is that women of color and black women especially tend to have the most internalized misogyny & literally never address it because they think intersectional feminism doesn't apply to them and they're free of wrongdoing on any other axis just because they're oppressed on another.
