Clone Wars Headcanons!!!
I was rewatching the clone wars the other day and thought I’d do some headcanons 😛😛
Anakin loves learning languages, mostly spoken as writing in them (especially learning all the alphabets) is insanely difficult considering the diversity of planets and their languages but he canonically knows huttese and basic and the fanon language of Amatakka. I hc that there’s quite a few huttese dialects and that he picked up on a lot of them on Tatooine and just never forgot them. At the Jedi temple, he got access to dictionaries and people to practice with for all kinds of languages so I think he would go crazy and knows at least a few phrases for the most common languages
Ahsoka is very adamant that her lightsabers are two completely different colours. I hc that Togruta (being carniverous and so very much apex predators) have a much wider range of senses so to her, her lightsabers are wildly different instead of the subtle difference they have in canon. Anakin insists they’re both ‘just green’ lol
Yoda and Anakin get on very well. This one’s technically canon as it’s Yoda that Anakin goes to about his nightmares about Padme and Yoda in turn goes to Anakin to escape the Jedi temple to see out Qui Gon. Personally, I think these two are pretty close as they both love to cause chaos though I think Yoda does offer a lot of useful (if unhinged) advice to Anakin that helps him through a lot of things
The clones are both very competitive and very loyal to their respective Jedi. I think clones have a culture of ‘respect is earned’ and having gone through years of war with their Jedi, would respect them (and occasionally Jedi outside their legion/battalion such as the 501st like Obi Wan etc.) a lot individually as they don’t think that being a Jedi automatically gains their respect. Because of this, I think they usually don’t work well if paired with Jedi other than their own (particularly after the events of Umbara for the 501st). I can imagine Fives and Echo doing their best to piss off whatever Jedi they’ve been given whenever Anakin’s away or on medical leave lol
I might do some more of these at some point, esp smth with more clone focused hcs 💜💜

Marvel hot takes
I’m bored
Alex Summers/Madelyne Pryor is a better ship than Scott/Jean. I’m sorry literally every comic with Scott and Jean as main characters is just them having relationship issues (past the original 60s run where they actually had chemistry.) They just constantly cheat on each other and Scott’s way better with Emma. Alex and Maddie are so interesting to me like they’re both very flawed but they match each other’s freak so well.
Miles Morales > Peter Parker. I just think Peter’s a bit boring and we’ve seen it all atp. I get the point of him and Spider-Man as a whole is that anyone could be him but I find him very repetitive while I think Miles has been taking the Spider-Man role and bringing a lot of new stories and ideas that work way better. He’s also just a way more interesting character in general.
Deadpool’s overrated. He is I’m sorry. His humour’s very repetitive to me and I don’t think he’s got many interesting dilemmas and plot lines. He’s just there to make bad meta jokes and kill people. Also a lot of comics make him way too OP when he really shouldn’t be able to go head to head with some of the bigger names in Marvel.
Anti heroes are boring compared to actual heroes. I’m talking g about characters like Deadpool, Wolverine, even Moon Knight to an extent. This is more of a personal preference but I think characters with strong moral codes are much more interesting. I like when a character is forced to break their moral codes or when they refuse to compromise them compared to a character who does what they want and doesn’t care. I like the complexity of heroes who have to make hard choices but anti heroes don’t have to make hard choices. Plus most of their fans are weird guys who think they’re tough and cool for ‘being like those characters’.
I’m still mad about what the movies did to Hawkeye. No hate to Jeremy Renner but he’s so much better in the comics. It sucks that they erased his deafness (it took them YEARS to actually bring it to the MCU) and they completely changed his personality.
Super powerful characters are boring. Every comic is just ‘I beat this powerful person! Now I’m going to beat this powerful person! Now I’m the most powerful person!’ They never have to struggle and then if you want to tell a more street level story with them, they get completely nerfed. It makes sense for some characters to be that powerful but it just means writers have to put loads of restrictions on them or use plot devices to stop them immediately winning every fight. Less powerful superheroes like Hawkeye, Angel, Bucky Barnes and Captain America are way more interesting because there’s actual stakes!!!! They might not win every fight, they might have to outsmart the other opponent instead of just being super powerful.
Ok, rapid fire: Wolverine is boring, Angel, Nightcrawler, Emma Frost and Iceman are the most interesting mutants, modern Apocalypse is better than the original Apocalypse, Tony Stark is mid, Thor in the MCU is nerfed in terms of intelligence, Jean hasn’t been an interesting character since the 80s, X-Men should be more street level (not every fight has to be a timeline ender) and Wanda and Pietro suck as characters.
Canon vs Fanon: Anakin Skywalker
Can we just talk about how Anakin Skywalker is the prime example of a character being so mischaracterised by the fandom that it leaks into the canon itself? In the prequel films, Anakin is completely awkward, a bit creepy, extremely violent and incredibly emotionally troubled. He's childish but does have moments of self awareness (like when he apologises to Obi Wan in ROTS) and I literally cannot stress enough how awkward this man is. Like come on. Every interaction he has with Padme is so horrible in AOTC. It does get better after the two get together but before that, a lot of what he does with her is just really weird. Compared to Obi Wan, he really does stick out as a weird teenager.
I believe most of the problem comes from the Clone Wars. In there, Anakin's suave and cool. He's charismatic and good with women. How is this the same character. The Clone Wars does get some things right but I think completely lacks Anakin's mindset behind his personality and choices. He's reckless, yes, but in more of an overly confident sort of way, like he genuinely believes nothing bad could happen to him. Yes, Anakin is reckless but in the prequels, it all stems from his attachment issues: he goes to great lengths to protect the people he loves, even to the point of putting himself in unnecessary danger like the AOTC arena. This is the whole point of his fall; Anakin is too unwilling to let the people he loves go, or even for them to find a way out of danger themselves that he goes to the most horrific lengths in a twisted way of doing what he believes is right. He murders children, slaughters the people he grew up around all because he genuinely believed it was all in an effort to save Padme from dying in childbirth.
In the Clone Wars though, Anakin doesn't seem like the same character. He isn't as possessive as in the films - apart from the Rush Clovis arc, which I consider to be the closest to the canon Anakin in the whole show - and I can see why it was done. The show was made for children. They can't really have their main character be an emotionally unstable, possessive psychopath who will kill if he can somehow justify it in his own mind. But there should be a line; either focus the show more on another character like Ahsoka, who is very relatable to younger audiences and is a much better representation of the good in the Jedi, or make minor changes to Anakin, keep his 'dark side' implied. In the Rush Clovis arc, the show displays perfectly why Anakin and Padme's marriage wouldn't work out. He's very loving and devoted to her but as soon as he has competition - something he would view as a threat to one of his 'possessions' - he flips and becomes violent and probably would've ended up killing Clovis if Padme hadn't intervened.
Another thing shown in the Clone Wars is Anakin's charisma with women. In the Zygerria arc, he easily flirts with Miraj Scintel when, in the timeline, only about two years ago, he was awkwardly telling Padme about how he doesn't like sand. In the prequels, he's almost shy and is completely laser focused on Padme and no one else. To see him flirting with another woman so easily - ESPECIALLY since she's a slaver - just feels so wrong. Anakin in canon would not have held back on Miraj, regardless of whatever mission they were on, regardless of if it would endanger Ahsoka, Rex and Obi Wan, because that's how he works! He's possessive but he's also so emotional. He would've been angry and he would've struck out at someone who greatly participates in the very thing he lost his mother to. And the people he cares about would've gotten hurt. Because that's what Anakin Skywalker does. He lets his emotions cloud his judgement and it gets his loved ones hurt or even killed, for something he believes is right - namely, killing a slaver queen, even if it got his friends killed.
This next one might be more of a pet peeve but Anakin seems a lot older in the Clone Wars. The show spans around three years and takes place pretty much straight after AOTC, give or take a few months, meaning Anakin is around 19 and a half to being freshly 23. Right off the bat, this age range seems completely off for the Clone Wars, where Anakin acts closer to his late twenties. It's not just the design though, it's the choice of voice actor - casting a VA with a significantly deeper and grittier voice than Hayden Christensen's - it's his much calmer demeanour, his discipline and his success with looking after a child. In what way does that sound like a guy in his early twenties/late teens. It makes sense that he's moody in the films, like when he freaks out when Mace Windu denies him the rank of master, he's like 23 at most! But in the Clone Wars, Anakin shows quite a lot of discipline.
I think this is partially because he's been thrust into the role of master instead of being the Padawan. All throughout the films, Anakin shows a lot of distaste at being 'beneath' the Jedi around him; he rebels against Obi Wan and he clearly dislikes the Jedi council. It's only through Palpatine - who gives Anakin the sense of authority that he craves - that he feels in control. He has clear authority issues so to put him in the role of master almost gives Anakin character development that is then undone in ROTS as it gives him the sense of authority and power that he craves, fulfilling the desires that he supposedly has never had fulfilled until Palpatine. It's part of the reason that he's able to manipulate Anakin so easily so to give him this fulfilment before ROTS completely undermines Palpatine's manipulations and making Anakin seem like he fell to the dark side so much more easily.
The real problem with all of this is that, because of the Clone Wars' success, most people would characterise Anakin the way the Clone Wars does: as a confident, suave guy who occasionally has more violent episodes that completely come out of nowhere because of his TCW characterisation. In my opinion, it undermines Anakin's emotional complexity, as a character who was traumatised by his upbringing in slavery and the loss of his mother, who is emotional and out of place among the Jedi because of it, who feels completely out of control of his life and who is possessive and so scared to lose the few people that he loves that Palpatine is able to manipulate him into committing the most heinous atrocities, all in the supposed name of saving the person Anakin loves most - Padme.
Anyway, sorry for the long post but I've been getting pretty annoyed at how dumbed down and action movie-ified Anakin is in TCW and the fandom when he's so much more complex than that. Thanks if you read all the way to the end!
