they just want to be one

one of the things i really love about homestuck is how the space aspect (& motherhood more broadly) have this coercive element to them, but without coming across as misogynistic in the way a lot of things do, where it becomes about mens fears of being emasculated by their mothers. and i mean of course homestuck just having a cast thats majority women is a big part of why thats averted. but also it just goes so far beyond that surface level masculine anxiety to really get at how like, in order to create something you do have to "manipulate" in the most neutral sense. the way one has to manipulate clay with their hands to sculpt a jar. space is strong, its powerful, its necessary but it also pulls everything into its gravitational field, and none of things are inherently good or evil...
