And yet somehow this is my first time kicking it!

I think it’s difficult for someone who wasn’t raised Christian in a majority Christian area to understand how much Christians hate other varieties of Christians. Maybe you have an inkling of the centuries of bloodshed and discourse that has occurred between Catholics and Protestants but after that, different flavors of Protestantism hateeeeee each other. There are sects that are way more adversarial towards other interpretations of the faith (FUCK evangelicals) and others that are chill about it but one of the greatest enemies in the mind of a Christian is another Christian that doesn’t hate the things their own pastor told them to hate. Because you’re making a mockery of God if you don’t think exactly like they do, obviously, and you should know better because you have the audacity to call yourself a Christian.

This is genuinely part of the reason European colonists came to America. French Huguenots were subject to a number of brutal massacres by French Catholics, the Puritans thought the Church of England was too tolerant to Catholic practices and ended up colonizing New England about it. It’s not like these sects of Christianity got to America and played nice with each other, the Puritans got here and started killing Quakers. The religious struggle between different sects of Christianity and the debate over what constitutes a ‘real Christian’ has been at the core of America since before it was a country.

Being a notorious robotlover in the current state of "AI" is the worst. I love robots discovering how they process their feelings in fiction, but when a chatbot pretends it knows how to love it feels like an insult to the craft

i fear tumblr has this issue where they think being queer or neurodivergent cancels out being racist

honestly "oracle that nobody believes" is such a solid trope. imagine trying to convince anybody in 2006 what the next two decades was gonna look like

I sometimes mumble "never kill yourself" in public but I worry someone will hear a stranger mumbling "kill yourself" and experience distress. I guess I could say "live" instead? It's not the same

a really funny thing about working with seeds in a day to day capacity is that you really need the seeds to stay in one place at any given moment, and the seeds disagree. so it’s just like, seeds end up on the floor. seeds end up on the desk. seeds appear in the crack between the glass plate of the microscope stage and its surrounding metal casing. seeds are around the dumpster outside. sweeping up seeds, patching up bags of seeds, picking seeds off your clothes and from between keyboard keys, very carefully transferring seeds into containers less likely to cause catastrophe should the seeds breach containment, like it’s just an uphill battle built into the work. almost as if the seeds are hyperevolved to disperse themselves or something
