Last night I dreamed that I walked into a hall where a religious dinner was taking place. Each table had six guests and a seventh person to lead them in prayer. I went up to a table which already had a cleric, and informed him I would lead the prayer. We stared each other down, and he ceded his place. I took his seat and performed a strangely secular blessing. The guests at my table held on to my every word, entranced. It soon became clear I was a prophet-like figure to these people, and my words carried a magic that compelled them. We then broke bread together, except the bread was thick slabs of meat, roasted to tenderness, which we tore apart gently and ate with our fingers. When we were sated, we cleaned our hands and stood up to go. Outside it was dark. I led my group down the sidewalk. They asked me questions as we walked, each seeking answers and reassurances for their own lives. I responded neutrally, and spoke as if in code; they seemed satisfied. The night took on the air of dreams. Finally, we came to a bridge. I asked: would they finally cross with me? It emerged that this night had happened before, over and over. Every night I would take the form of a messiah, and attempt to lead them across a bridge. Every night so far they had wavered, because they knew, on some level, I was the devil in disguise.
Then I woke up
Which dream was preferable?
in the hippopotamus dream we were In Love, but it was also extremely graphic which i find traumatic in hindsight
Extremely Graphicly In Love with a hippopotamus sounds exactly like the kind of dream that the devil in disguise would have, tbh
I donât consider this a disguise actually

I just wanted to tell you that you legit opened my eyes to a whole new level of creature design. I was annoyed that many of my cross-breeding attempts looked like Splicing, but I didn't know how to *define* what was wrong. Now it'll be a little easier to spot and improve on, I cannot express how much your tips and art have renewed my love of creature design. And for that I am sincerely SO grateful. <3
you're welcome! I'm glad I could put into words what bothered me so much growing up HOWEVER
Splicing is not wrong.
Some quick review:
Creature Design Masterpost || Splice Vs Blend || Splice/Blend griffin tutorial
Splicing doesn't make things wrong, but it makes them unnatural. Sometimes unnatural is the way to go!
To refresh splice vs blend: A manticore using Asiatic lion, Indian scorpion, and "ancient Persian bust" statue reference. I like to reference animals and people of the time and place where myth originates
Splicing (top) looks like a creature formed by a bored god; meant to be uncanny and threatening in its familiarity. But the blended version (bottom) looks more like a predator that evolved in the jungles of India that can and will swallow you whole.
Both blending and splicing are valid, but I like blending best in most circumstances. Let's try another one.
I think we can all agree this creature looks super cool. But what is it? There's probably some lion (big surprise, people love making lion beasts) and a goat (kri-kri), and from the mouth/tail/scales probably a snake (Anatolian meadow viper) It's neat but it doesn't match the ancient descriptions enough to identify the myth.
Little easier to tell now huh? I kept the markings spliced as well for even more distinction, but colors and markings matter less to a chimera than easily identifiable anatomy. The chimera is the Original splice, so even though a blend looks more "realistic" it doesn't work. Plus, by chasing "anatomically feasible" I've eliminated the "serpent for a tail" because it doesn't make sense evolutionary. But by doing that, I lost a HUGE part of what makes a chimera and chimera.
Compare the blend map with the different arrangements of splice maps. You can get really creative with your seams and stitches, so treat splicing as a technique and not a sin. True mastery of a technique is knowing when and when not to use it.
Blending almost always makes things look more natural, but sometimes...

Also people act like autistic people would have been, like, left in the woods to die or something as kids for most of history, but as i said i'm researching islamic saints and in both islam and christianity there's an awful lot of just, like, "Yeah that guy decided to go live in a cave by himself and wore one (1) article of clothing and sometimes he would walk around and scream randomly, it meant he was closer to god than everybody else"
I'd have to research this, but I kinda feel that, what with how much the eugenics movement pervaded everything for a huge chunk of recent history, our narrative of how disability was for much of history has gotten a little warped.
I feel like I always heard "yeah they assumed people were possessed by demons Back Then" but actually researching religious history? I've found a lot more of people seeing a person showing signs of (what we would call) neurodivergence or mental illness and being like "hm. yea that's god."
It's also definitely like...in the US anyway fundamentalism has absolutely decimated a lot of AWARENESS of what Christianity specifically can look like.
american evangelicalism is based a lot on Belief in your religion as axiomatic Fact and at the same time a very buddy-buddy view of god where Jesus is like, your cool dad. Both of which are not very good for allowing the numinous and divine "mystery" to exist
So I think we assume people throughout history would default to "things I don't understand are of the devil." when very often they would instead be "things I don't understand are of God."
and they would see someone speak in strange sounds or move his body strangely or respond differently to the world and see something divine in it, and there are instances of this across many religions
@invisibleoctopus There's this fascinating book about the cultural aspects of how mental illness presents called Crazy Like Us by Ethan Watters that is not without its flaws, but that (among other things) discusses how schizophrenic people do significantly better in cultures where there's a precedent/religious or spiritual explanation for people 'hearing voices' and such, because for one thing, they're not treated as social outcasts for it. Those environments are better equipped to help and accommodate those people on the basis of being able to keep them integrated into a community. At least according to the Ethan Watters guy.
The thing about imagining that autistic children would have been left to die for most of history is just... it's so lazy. And it betrays a huge failure to understand what autism looks like for autistic people and what daily life looked like in history at the same time. It's very frustrating.
There's this weird idea that autistics only develop special interests in this very narrow stereotypical STEM-field domain of life, also, which is total nonsense. Of course religion autistics are a thing. Judaism, too, has a lot of room for autistics: you develop very deep spheres of knowledge, about which you argue constantly, and prayer is sung and you get to move back and forth during it rhythmically.
The other thing that gets me is that it's not just that there's historical room to interpret weird behavior as Godly, it's that autistic people are relatively likely to come up with unusual ideas about people and how people do and should work. If you're talking about any theological tradition that involves contextual study and argument, you often find a very autistic sort of perspective writing the theology.
Also, just as a general data point: my stepdad, who is in his mid-70s, grew up in a rural farming community, and was never diagnosed with anything, is Obviously Autistic to anyone who knows what autism is.
He can only tolerate about 2 different fabrics against his skin.
And can only eat about 5 foods for obvious food texture reasons.
He hums softly and continually.
He never looks at people.
He has a bunch of other people-related sensitivities, like the inability to tolerate a lot of sounds and nearly all perfume smells.
He has about 3 topics of conversation, which are a) tractors, b) agriculture, and c) Rottweilers.
And you know what? He has had a nice long life of being a Rural Farmer and gets along great with other old farmer dudes who want to talk dogs-tractors-farming with him.Â
I mean, itâs generally understood that he is Weird, but also that he knows Really A Fucking Lot About Tractors. Which counts for everything in a rural farming community.
It goes beyond lazy into a type of downright cruelty.  No matter how autistic people did or did not fit into their communities in the past, chances are someone loved them. When they were little, someone found the clothes they could tolerate and food they would eat and something they could do that matched their interests and abilities.  And people married some of them and had children with them.  Maybe not all of them, but some of them at least were loved. Â
We know this because archeology shows over and over again a great level of care and because these traits are still present - they had to get passed on somehow. And we know it because we too feel love for others, despite them constantly failing to live up to any ideal whatsoever.
Anyone who approaches other people with this attitude is only seeking to perpetuate an excuse to be cruel to them. It has nothing to do with what happened in the past and everything to do with what they hope they can get away with in the future. They discount the love that must have existed because it canât be used against us.

Oh Billy, you look so small right thereâŚ
Supermanâs sheer anger over Billy Batsonâs situation is a sight to behold. Batman and Robin get away with it because he knows itâs the worldâs best internship and that Bruce is willing to put out all the stops to protect him. But Billy? He doesnât have anyone looking out for him. And that pisses off Superman more than anything.
Seriously, Clarkâs face here
He is ready to kick the ass of whoever put this boy in this situation SO HARD
Next page he really lets the Wizard Shazam have it.
Shit, son. I might have to buy this book for those last two panels alone.
When Superman is written well he is an amazing goddamned character.
these few pages are some of my favourite in comic book history. So good. For anyone wondering what the next few pages look like, here you go:
This is a bigger deal than some of you might think, because Superman is one of the heroes in the DC Universe who keeps his secret identity pretty damn secret, because as probably the most powerful and influential person on earth, a lot of people do not wish him well - and would jump at the chance to hold people dear to him as leverage.
Yet, he trusts this poor, scared little kid. To comfort him, and entrust him with his biggest secret - just as Billy did for him.
Superman is just really important, ok?
this for people to truly understand superman

I miss tumblr's Reblog Balls
These ones? Ah I don't want to update my app and suffer then
No, I mean the tumblr labs' Reblog Balls
It was a feature where you could see the size of a tumblr user's balls in each post they were in. The more people reblogged directly from them, the bigger their balls.
It was interesting because as soon as a contrarian rant, shit take, insane reply and/or dumb addition was added to a post, you could check these and, inevitably, you'd find a common link responsible for the spread of the shit version of said post, and I just found fascinating how awful tumblrs were interconnected.
I guess you could use it to curate your dash by blocking/blacklisting everyone in the Shit Chain, but I was always too lazy to do it.
we used to have so many balls
THIS that shit I was talmbout!!!!

So youâve got this bitch-ass fitted sheet that you would normally pile into a ball and shove into a closet so you wonât have to deal with it, yeah? Well. Quit acting like a piece of linen is better than you are. You can make a fitted sheet bend to your will. And hereâs howâŚ
First, put your sheet on the floor. Stand above it for a few seconds so it knows whoâs boss.
Then, put your hand in the lower left corner so that itâs inside out. Do the same to the lower right corner.
Now, your lower left and right corners of the fitted sheet should be inside out. (Shoutout to Amy Poehler, love your work).
Then, take the lower left corner (thatâs still inside out) and tuck it into the upper left corner. It should look like the picture above once youâre done. Then, do the same with your right corners.
It should look something like that. Right now, sheâs your friend at the end of a good night out. Doesnât look really bad, but you know she deserves better.Â
Pull at the corners until you get something like this shape, as it makes it easier to fold. Youâve given your friend some plain white bread and a glass of water. Sheâs looking much more presentable now.
Now, pull in at the elastic until you make a rectangle. Youâll want to tuck and smooth the excess fabric away from the elastic seams and towards the closed edge of the fitted sheet.
Once youâve got a (semi) neat rectangle, fold the the top of the sheet down about a third of the way through. I like to fold the upper part of the sheet down first, because itâs not as straight of an edge as the bottom. You can find your own meaning within that description.
Now, fold the lower portion of the sheet on top of the part youâve already folded down.
Fold the left side of the sheet into the middle, and then fold the right side of the sheet on top of what you just folded.Â
Congratulations. You just made a fitted sheet your bitch.
No but really, this has been the most complete and informative description of how to fold a fitted sheet Iâve ever seen. Very few that Iâve seen show the âbread and waterâ step.

I made a font for my ghost conscript (English version)!
It only has the letters right now, though.
(It says, 'This is written in ghost script!')
I'm pretty sure you guys know what this is going to be.
Could you share how it works?
Sure! This is a little out of date, since I added q and x symbols.
The 'ng' 'sh' and 'ch' symbols are not implemented in the font, and the only 'h' in the font is the bar-h.
Some of the letters are a little simplified for the font, but the main purpose of it is to help me keep track of what I'm writing in it, so...
I can make it italicized!
That looks way cooler than it has any right to be.
