Didnβt think Iβd be crying over dinosaurs on a workday
this and also the only difference between fanfic writers and writers who sell their own original works as careers is that fanfics arenβt monetized. thatβs all.
being a βprofessionalβ writer doesnβt mean your works are inherently better than fanfics. Iβve read so many fics that are more professionally written than some published books.
whether or not a piece of writing is monetized has nothing to do with its quality.

This has been my main argument against "AI" from the very beginning.
OpenAI scraped the entire web. All of which had been a labor of love from humans. Wikipedia is the backbone of a lot of LLMs, and that was volunteer human labor. They stole it and now they're selling it back to us.
And worse, they're trying to destroy the free sources that they stole from. It's destruction of human knowledge on an unprecedented scale. The burning of the library of Alexandria has nothing on this.
The whole "and they were roommates!" thing can and has happened in real life.
Not me painting a portrait of tomorrow with the colors of today
really love keeping up with my mutuals through their little tags and vent posts. getting updates on how theyβre doing is something like: glad to know your job at the library is going well. iβm sorry you havenβt gotten that raise. glad your finals went well. iβm sorry your teacher is so unhelpful. glad your tv show got renewed. iβm sorry they killed your favorite character. glad that you scored tickets to see your favorite artist. iβm sorry they arenβt touring near you at all. glad your cat is doing well. iβm sorry your mom is sick again. glad youβre feeling better now that itβs your favorite season. iβm sorry your meds arenβt working. glad youβre married now. iβm sorry you have to step back for your mental health. glad youβre still here. iβm sorry life is so hard. glad youβre alive, i hope things get easier for you soon

Anyone who's ever done anything creative needs to fucking see this.
Slowing down can feel scary, but it'll be okay! There are no real timelines to life. If your body and your mind are telling you they need rest, let's listen to them and slow down. π’π

this is really interesting in how it frames disability/low spoons/etc as not being a series of internal symptoms, but specifically a situation in which daily tasks increase in complexity. for example i used to be able to wash the dishes normally. but now mental and physical issues combine to make that situation have a lot of prequalifications (do I have time, energy, how long can I do it without being sore the next day) that means many more steps are involved in getting that single physical act of washing a dish to be done.
Iβm trying to remember the quote. βOn a good day, doing laundry is three steps. On a bad day, the first step is getting out of bed.β

Having vegetables given to you at work is a sign of good things to come.
I just canβt even understand using AI to write fic. I canβt. Fic is entirely optional. I write it for the joy of writing it, not just to slapdash post a finished product. And the finished product is only satisfying because I wrote it! Me! Not a robot!!
I have a lot of weird and bad feelings rn but ultimately the thing I can say most succinctly is that art without humanity isnβt art. And the struggle of writing, smoothing over road blocks, filling in plot holes, fiddling with the sentences you canβt quite nail have always been the point. That. Not the shiny product and kudos at the end. The process is the point. The love you have for the characters and the craft is the point! Without it, why are we even here?
This and can I add when I hit a wall in my fics which is OFTEN instead of going to a robot, I go to a discord server which is also full of writers who are also full of despair because writing is often πππ.
We fucking "talk about it" in a "community" of fellow "people" and that is beautiful. And we say "Can someone look at this fucking doc I can't tell if it's complete garbage that needs launched into the sun and my keyboard privileges should be taken away or if maybe I just looked at it for too long."
And I didn't magically fall into that community, I found it slowly, because I wanted to write and it's hard and lonely to write. And so I joined a fandom event and started a Tumblr and replied to comments and asked in my author's notes if anyone wanted to help beta because I am a lonely, messy disaster who can't grammar. And people did help me because my bad grammar was giving them hives and also they enjoy community and talking about things they love with people who love the same thing.
Does this make sense? Like it's really sad to me because, yeah, I can't imagine writing my super-long fics all alone with no support. You don't have to write with no support. But because I sought human support, I get writing and editing help from beautiful, interesting weirdos who live all over the world and have all kinds of wonderful things and skills to share.
