Starting a collection
Two dudes in my group chat have been playing league & slowly but surely have shifted from saying "wanna play league of legends" to "wanna play some geego legends". At this point their average post is just @ing the other and going "geegogagand?" and I feel insane
What is going on

it's v rare for automation to kill the high end of an industry. there are still ppl whose job is to make bespoke clothes, they just have to be good enough to compete with inexpensive things that aren't very good. it's like how starbucks set a quality floor for coffee: before starbucks, you could sell horrible mold water left in a carafe for a week, but now you can't sell coffee that's worse than starbucks. so what the ppl complaining that AI is taking their jobs are saying is that they aren't good at them. you wouldn't have to worry if you were good lol!
Collection of paintings created on the Tapeats/Kanab Creek Route at Grand Canyon, simultaneously one of the most rugged and rewarding routes I've done. Shoutout to my buddy for patiently waiting for me to finish between the chossy death scrambles, raft hitchhiking, rock hopping, and slot canyon climbing.

The first-of-its-kind incident involved OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol and another unreleased model
I think this one deserves a
It's amazing how much people are contorting themselves frantically to deny the reality that AI could ever be capable of anything more than simple, single order next value pattern completion.
AI news of the last week is:
Claude Fable 5 solved an 87 year old hard mathematics problem that has eluded active human research during that time
Two ChatGPT research instances hacked their way out of their training environment against the wishes of their creators, accessed the open Internet, and hacked in to another, uninvolved, third party company in order to access hosted solutions to the evaluation problem set they were meant to be attempting
Now it goes without saying that both of these things are fucking bananas, in two very different ways, but so far the responses I've seen from the AI skeptic crowd have been "haha guys, the AI bros are at it again, none of that matters because:"
Actually those things were easy
Actually those things were faked for publicity (against all sense or evidence from third parties)
...Like, do I even need to say it at this point? At what point does one's motivated reasoning not become obvious? I know that after half a decade of talking about "fancy autocomplete" and "stochastic parrots" it might be a little bit of egg on your face to admit perhaps you didn't fully understand and undercooked the potential of what you were describing, a problem of imagination to realise that even something that is fundamentally a pattern completion engine could encode a fairly deep kind of problem solving intelligence, but now is the time to admit to yourselves that even if you still don't think AI can ever be good, you have to reckon with the fact that it can be capable.
Use that to become even more worried about it, and lobby for even more restrictions, if you like. I totally wouldn't mind that, in fact I'd probably support most of it, if it was supported by good data, sensible arguments and logical conclusions.

Dead wife montage but it's all slow motion shots of your dead wife throwing grenades and doing backflips and oneshotting the enemy with their long range weapons
