+ Two Bonus sketches because I was inspired and couldn't help myself

But in a story like twst, where so many characters are relatable human or not, I think it’s a bit unfair to not consider their perspective.

The main one I’m thinking of right now is how we tend to criticize Malleus and his not being able to keep track of time.

We’ve been told that he has trouble keeping track of time, and in general, many of the fae do. To them, time moves different (not to mention how it can differ depending on species), but for Malleus it’s much more than that.

Malleus has been locked up in the castle for years. He got visits from Lilia and he looked foward to that. Beyond that? It was the same every single day. He was alone. Think about it. For us, we would get tired and bored of that. Time would move slowly. We would want to escape. But Malleus couldn’t. He was trapped there, making the most of it when he hid and when Lilia visits. To him, those moments of fun didn’t last long at all and the moments of melancholy lasted forever.

On a side note, we’ve seen how long it took Lilia to adapt to humans too, about 200+ years. (He’s still adapting now. He’s somewhat better at it now because of Silver and Sebek. Who are more day creatures and he had to adapt to that as well. Even though it’s still tough on him). So how can we expect the same from Malleus, when it took even Lilia this long to do it?

When Malleus grew older and he was able to escape, time moved quickly for him. He was able to spend time with Lilia and others. He had fun and freedom. To him, time sped up. Silver and Sebek age quickly. Malleus had trouble with how fast it was. Even in his dorm card he mentions how quickly they’ve grown.

But then, you also have to consider, Malleus is a fae, he’s abided by fae time for over a century and it was only recently (at least 17 years), that he tried to adapt to human time. From seeing a babe grow to now at NRC, where school is taught through human time. How can we expect him to suddenly adapt so quickly?

I wouldn’t be surprised that besides some of the fae, other beastman or merman might have more of a nocturnal clock too.

We expect him to adapt to humans but when has any of them helped him to adapt? When we ask things of others, don’t we usually try and meet half way?? Isn’t it selfish to always one-sidedly ask him to change?? And not help him achieve the change we are asking for?

It’s one thing for the rest of dia group to help him, and they try. But it’s another, when the humans don’t even try when Malleus is trying to get along with them and make a connection with them for peace between everyone. Even more so, he wants to get along and have friends too.

And then?? They get angry? At him?? For not adhering to their ways, but did they help him? Did you remind him? Or even send the invite at all? Or were you too scared and it’s easier to blame?

He’s known to arrive in advance hours before a meeting so he doesn’t miss it because he does care and he does want to attend. But where are the people to meet him half way? To remind him or even give him the proper or updated info?

It’s a two way street. We can’t always judge malleus because of his “bad” traits, when in reality, it’s a fae thing can we?

You can argue that it’s not others jobs to do that. And yeah you’re right, but then we have seen dorm leaders go out of their way to help others haven’t we? Riddle going after Idia is one example.

And if there is to be peace, then both humans and fae have to work together to understand the other.

this bothers me sm bc it’s the same way that people treat neurodivergent people: “its fine for you to work differently for as long as it doesn’t affect me”

they understand that malleus is a fae, that he lives in another country, that he has another culture, that he was raised differently… but they think it’s outrageous when he acts different from them?

they expect malleus to change and adapt to them but they don’t bother to even understand why malleus acts differently or why he can’t adapt to the way things work for them

also, isnt malleus literally cursed to make time pass differently to him? i mean, the characters don’t know this, but the fandom does, why are people still criticizing him for this?

it makes me mad bc MALLEUS TRIES, he tries só hard to adapt to things, he mark down the days on a calendar and arrives hours before the time when he is invited to something - but SOMEHOW everyone still blames him when he can’t make it, when this only happens at the times where he WASNT INVITED

Lilia's impersonation of Malleus is always so funny and cute and makes me laugh 😂😂💞💞

The way he deepens his voice and then does those gestures before laughing makes me so happy because he’s having so much fun 💕💕💚💚

Malleus on the other hand...

• being MUTILATED

• losing his magic

• seeing HIS FATHER DIE BY HIS OWN HANDS

isnt enough punishment, then please think again

its really valid to complain about the ob boys not paying for what they did - bc this is a REAL problem with twst writing - but malleus did???

literally NO ONE ELSE had to pay like he did, and most of them caused more damage

and he also genuinely apologized, what if i’m not mistaken only riddle and vil also did

He didn't damage any of his victims physically. So it's literally is 1000 years of sleep. Practically does not able to kill but has a wildcard chance that he might do something dangerous (and it's more likely he will hurt himself more)

He ACTUALLY will likely kill all the victims with his OB. So the 1000 years is just literally impossible. It's like there's a side effect of how his magic works or smthing like that

I think I need to at least know what Malleus is doing to em. The one I know is the first one, but it seems that the second is also true.

it’s possible that people’s body would atrophy bc of the amount of time they would stay in one position, but this is only a theory ortho thought and it wasn’t confirmed, what we know for sure is that the time was stoped

and if time has stopped in itself, no one would grow old or get weak, that was the entire point of malleus plan: everyone would live happily every after for a thousand years

at the end the consequences are: a damaged building and a couple of scratches

the biggest damages were: lilia’s death, silver and sebek with major injuries

lilia, silver and sebek getting hurt was a punishment in itself, the people he tried to protect the most were the ones he hurted. the building was reconstructed and the majority of people barely noticed what happened bc in the end all they actually experienced was… a good night of sleep

that’s why they forgave him too: they didn’t really suffer anything, and it was in their culture to forgive someone who is genuinely apologetic about their acts

then i go back to my original point: seeing his father die + losing his magic + being mutilated = IS ACTUALLY A REAL PUNISHMENT

malleus actually is the one that payed the most what is insane considering he is the only one who genuinely thought he was doing something good lol, people forget that malleus is >not human< and he can’t relate to people the way others characters could

add this to 2 centuries of trauma and loneliness and you have a teenager that dont know SHIT about what to do, especially in a moment he is feeling utterly powerless after being told his whole that (1) he is almost a god and (2) he is responsible for the happiness and safety of everyone around him

malleus is a character that wants to do good when everyone around him expects him to do evil, people expect that malleus will make thunder fall down the sky, that he should say and other should obey and no one dared to give him another option other than being fearsome, so everything he knows about being good he learned from lilia or from his own experiences, and he didn’t have either enough time with lilia nor enough experiences

idk why people want so much to make a villain out of these character when it’s obvious this game is about traumatized teenagers with too much power in their hands, it’s way past time some people here realize that NO these character ARE NOT evil, they are normal people that have good and bad inside of them

malleus actions are understandable AND not justifiable, that doesn’t make him a bad person bc he did something bad

if you do something bad you have to pay for it, and he did, i don’t get why some are só against the idea of forgiveness

the very own ob boys being against he coming back to the school as if they haven’t done WORSE. is actually laughable
