at some point you have to realize that you actually have to read to understand the nuance of anything. we as a society are obsessed with summarization, likely as a result of the speed demanded by capital. from headlines to social media (twitter being especially egregious with the character limit), people take in fragments of knowledge and run with them, twisting their meaning into a kaleidoscope that dilutes the message into nothing. yes, brevity is good, but sometimes the message, even when communicated with utmost brevity, requires a 300 page book. sorry.

You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.
Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.
Kill the censor in your head.
When we choose to avoid history because it's Problematic or Says Bad Things, we are choosing to divorce ourselves from understanding how we came from that time to this one, which makes it even more likely for the cycle to repeat, with no one but a few people with shelves of old books aware that it's happened before.
and this shit's important. Media from the past tells us how people from the past acted and thought and behaved.
Plus, a lot of these media pieces were socially acceptable and/or progressive for their time. For example, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, while it contains a lot of words and ideas that are offensive now, was very progressive for its time. The book is a statement piece for how a young man who's grown up in a racist environment, with no words to explain himself other than racist and bigoted ones, decides that the whole system is shit and he's not going to follow those rules any more. So not reading or engaging with it because it uses the n-word a lot really misses the point.
Fandom shit is just straight up not fun when everyone interprets everything in the worst possible faith and acts deliberately obtuse for the sole purpose of getting mad online
*sees whatever the fandom is doing* there's a really good story happening on the actual show if you want to watch that instead

I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think they’ll get bulky as though bulking isn’t a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density 🥀
if you say women are intentionally nerfed from birth in 2026 people look at you like you’re insane and start condescendingly telling you about how women are just better at different things (but not during their periods haha) but this was a completely basic feminist talking point I grew up with like “girls can do it too! [shot of little girls climbing and running with boys]” nickelodeon commercial tier base level I hate it how is everyone suddenly dumber than the average 7 year old
the buzziest thing about buddie is how devoted they are to each other. buck wanted to live, but he wanted eddie to live more. eddie has shown repeatedly that he is kind to the people who hurt him, but he was ready to kill someone for buck. they were both ready to give up these big pieces of themselves just to make sure the other made it home.
tv is a loser's game but when you win... the 0.00001 percent of the time when you win.........
Little bird told me Oliver wanted a Buddie kiss in the rain working on a mini-comic of this on patreon
Why do you think Eddie's sexuality is so contentious while Buck was pretty much universally headcanoned as bi before it was confirmed?
Honestly, I think people have trouble looking at Eddie's sexuality through the lens of someone who does not know they are queer yet. I think that's what breaks the chance of nuance here. The breakup with Ana puts a lot in place to pull a thread about Eddie being gay, and I am ready to admit that, but the fact that that's an interpretation made a lot of people decide that Eddie has always known he's gay and is trying to suppress that. I think it also comes with using repress and suppress interchangeably. Personally, I think Eddie never stopped to consider men as an option and he truly believes he was in love with Shannon and that makes him date women he finds interesting but he can't fall in love with. The fact that he believes he was in love with Shannon, to me, also means he will never reach a point where he labels himself as gay. Shannon is dead, he will never get a chance to objectively look at his feelings for her, it's why I'm an unlabeled Eddie defender since the show will probably not go with the demi route.
I think the idea that Eddie is looking for what he knows, what he had with Shannon since they were so young when they met, in other women because he never stopped to consider men is more interesting than the idea that he has known he's gay the whole time and is trying to feel "normal". I think a lot of the problem is that there's a portion of the fandom that cannot accept the possibility that Eddie doesn't know the same way Buck didn't know. And that makes it hard to have a nuanced conversation because anything that's not "Eddie knows he's gay and hates himself for it" is met with a shitton of very aggressive reactions. I don't think Eddie is aware and going around trying to hurt the women he dates, I feel like he just wants to be loved and doesn't know anything else.
