five years of being with his daughter and wife while dealing with the pain that he let the rest of the world down, that Peter Parker died in his hands, that half of the universe is gone because he didn’t try hard enough

I said it once already and I will say it again, yes, you gave Iron Man the perfect ending and cemented his role as the Earth’s best defender and MCU’s greatest hero, but you did a shitty, outrageous thing to Tony Stark, who was broken most of his life, who never had a chance to be fully happy and to be a husband and a father in a full world and watch his baby girl grow and see families reunited and everything coming back to balance

was his death heroic? yes

was his life finished? fuck no

The human experience is not a checklist. Human beings are not brood mares.

He got married, he had a kid. But that doesn’t mean he was done.

Being married is not about the wedding or the ring or the status. It’s about growing old together. About growing and developing as separate people and adjusting accordingly. It’s about commitment and devotion.

Being a parent isn’t about popping out a kid and being done. Being a parent is about raising a child, about unconditional love, about watching someone grow and become the best version of themself.

Call it heroic. Call it triumphant. I don’t care. But do not look me in the eye and say that he was finished. He was never finished. He wasn’t finished loving Pepper, wasn’t finished raising Morgan, wasn’t finished healing from his PTSD, wasn’t finished learning how to put himself first, wasn’t finished watching Morgan grow and develop, wasn’t finished being happy.

“Oh your spouse died in a war? At least you got married! You two were pretty much finished with everything haha!!”

“You don’t remember your parent? At least they had you! That makes up for everything!”

“Your kid is dead? At least you knew them for a few years, it’s practically the same as them being alive!!!!!!”

Shut up. Life is not a checklist. Tony had so much to live for. And fine, he went out fighting. You can be satisfied with his death. But don’t pretend he had nothing to live for.

Don’t insult real families to excuse your narrative. Don’t act like his life didn’t mean the world to him. Don’t say that because he got a piece of what he wanted that it was everything he could have gotten.
