Tried a new series, Wraithwood Botanist. It was interesting, for the most part. In the beginning, it seemed like it struggled to committ to being a true litrpg or a cultivation/thrifty wizard series with RPG elements. But, slowly fell into place.
It had the typical unapologetic OPMC that quickly gained their levels and skill as they did traumas by being put into and enduring scenarios and challenges that nobody but the main character of a fantasy series would survive.
There's only 2 big complaints I have with the series. Unfortunately, these 2 complaints, in tandem, push me to drop this series.
1.) The pacing is abysmal. Super slow pacing is negative, period. It doesn't matter if some readers enjoy that. Doesn't make it good. If one author can write a standalone book that's 500 pages long and can encompass a full story, fully fleshed out characters, and impressive dialogue and narrative. I won't give grace to another author who takes 3 books to barely get through part 1 of 3 of their full story. Just no.
2.) You don't set up 3 books on a potential romance(s) with a set character for the MC. Just to introduce a new love interest in the last 4 chapters of your 4th book, and have their relationship progress faster than any relationship you potentially established in the previous books combined. I've read female authored love triangle romances that didn't handle relationships as poorly as that.
This was an interesting series that was almost good imo. But, it’s hindered by it’s own storytelling.
