Drift wanted a bed, some water, and to not be chased by goblins for five consecutive minutes. He gets one of the three.
Issue 2 of DRIFTWOOD is up. He reaches the inn and falls in with three merchants heading the same way — and then there's the checkpoint into the city, which wants papers he can't produce. This is a problem, given he doesn't know his own name.
Fortunately, one of the merchants is a sage, and she's decided he's interesting.
"I'm a sage. He's my graduate student."

A man wakes manacled in the hold of a capsizing prison ship. Everyone else in the cells is dead. He can't remember his name, but he can see a cobalt-blue window that nobody else can.

It's a comic. Sort of. It's a comic script — panel descriptions, balloon markers, the whole apparatus, thirty issues and counting, no art yet. Which means there are spoilers buried in the panel descriptions that a comic reader would never catch and a script reader absolutely will. That's the trade: you get the machinery.

Thousands of planets are dead or dying including Earth. People and places are threaded together on a hexagonal grid. Vin is one of the lucky people who will arrive first in this new world. He homeless with a great need to explore and find new friend. He is a standard goody two shoes with a good personality who tries to adhere to pacifism in a world that rewards violence and following your true nature.
There is a good balance between civilization building and pure exploration, but you can expect no matter where Vin and his cohorts are they will inevitably find themselves in some wacky situations.
