This tweet means a lot to me.
Itâs probably a really cool and good sign that this post I made in 2014 is going around again, right?

we DO grow old and happy. btw.
And you find love and it stays with you.
Older women are so, so beautiful, and older trans women are no exception. Celebrate the beauty of our elders! Celebrate trans beauty!
I wanted to share some more of these, specifically trans women of color. The images I'm posting are from a project called To Survive On This Shore and it's an interview project. I am only posting a handful so it's so worth checking out!
This is Linda, 60
Alexis, 64
Helena, 63
Kendrah, 72 (!!)
Tasha, 65
It was deeply healing to me to discover this project. The site has selected photos and attached interviews and it's definitely worth your time. I didn't include any because the focus of this post imo is transfems but there are a lot of beautiful interviews with transmasc people too if you're interested! But that'll have to be another post đ
To Survive On This Shore, including photos and interviews of trans folks of all identities in their golden years
Seeing older trans people gives me hope that me and my loved ones will survive.

its tough out there but so am i
it's a skill I'm tryina learn
I've been working on a major project but little details keep dragging me down rabbit holes that distract me from the core project itself.
Do you experience this same temptations? If so, how do you manage them?
Oh I experience it constantly, I'm technically experiencing it right now (I should be editing instead of checking tumblr lol), but I'm presuming you mean distracted more in the 'get caught up in researching or making something unrelated to the project itself'. I think getting distracted like that is just part of the process. The real important bit is being able to distinguish between the rabbit holes that benefit the project and those that don't. I spent about a month looking over neuroscience for things that might be useful for some of the points I was hoping to explore in the Haruspex video - and it was really interesting! It was compelling and did feel like it gave me a lot to consider and I really wanted to explore it more fully! But also, it was utterly disconnected from the original theatre research I was working on, reinforced my case without really adding to it, and would have added months of not just extra research, but broadly educating myself enough that I could be confident I wasn't just talking out my ass. After a certain point, I had to place a fence around what i wanted this specific project to be and what was influencing it and hone in on that. There will be time for more creating and learning later, but for now I'm making this thing, and I need to be cutthroat about what's relevant and focus on diving deep into that. Staying curious while also staying focused.
Beyond that, learn to value and appreciate the little details. Animating the dialogue text for the patho vids is a boring, tedious chore in the moment, but I know how much life it gives to everything once it's done, so I try to stay focused on how cool it will be to see that.
At least, that's what works for me and my brain. Best of luck with the project <33
Thank you! Followed the rabbit hole, it paid of in a very small but impactful way.
