Alright, I’m on my my third out break (including the initial one) and I hate it. I got it cause I had a head cold which is fine.

I’m taking my multi vitamins, lysine and the valtrex which I think are helping a lot. I’m not completely in pain but I am uncomfortable especially when I sit. I’m at peace with this diagnosis so I’m just trying to get through it.

I bring in a graduated cylinder of it and we talk about how it’s used in nuclear power plants and gmo crops. How inhaling even the small amount I’m holding can lead to suffocation or even death. It’s found in vaccines and cancer cells, but also in infant formula and pet food. It is a huge component of acid rain, can cause severe burns, and has been found in places that were thought to be the most pristine and unpolluted locations on earth.

We talk about how there are little to no regulations on this chemical. No bans, no warning labels, and most manufacturers don’t even have to disclose their use of it in their products.

My students are outraged. We talk about what we can do. Create posters and flyers to spread awareness. Contact our senators with petitions to ban DHMO. Spread this information all over social media.

Then I explain that the real problem with dihydrogen monoxide is that….when I am thirsty…there is just nothing else as refreshing, and then I watch their looks of absolute shock and horror as I drink the entire vial down.

If hsv1 and hsv2 are as common as we know they are, and the majority of people with the virus show no symptoms… why isn’t the conversation going something like this:

Last night I was at dinner with a bunch of physicists, and I heard a fantastic story from an 80-ish year old physicist about why racism is bad for science.

So. If one was to pick exactly one physicist without whom the American nuclear program probably wouldn’t have succeeded, Enrico Fermi probably would be at the top of the list. Fermi was an Italian physicist and, to be blunt, very fucking good at his job. So good that in 1938 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. That good.

Now Fermi travels to Switzerland to pick up his big hunk of “I am a smart cookie” gold, as one does. And while he’s there, picking up his “seriously, the smartest cookie” gold medal, he gets a letter from his university. They’d fired him, you see. His wife was Jewish and with Italy allying with Hitler, that was apparently a deal breaker now.

Fermi didn’t even bother going back to Italy. He met up with his wife and they took a boat to New York City, where he asked a friend/colleague “what’s the best university for physics in this country?”, walked into Columbia University, dropped his medal on the Dean’s desk and got a job.

Shortly thereafter, when Einstein helped convince President Roosevelt that the Nazis would be working on their own atomic bomb and that the US needed to get there first, Einstein was asked “okay so who do you need?”. Fermi was at the top of the list.

Now in the end the Nazis and fascist Italy did not get even close to producing a nuclear bomb. The US rather obviously did. And no small part of that is probably due to some racist assholes deciding that who Fermi had married meant more to them than his skills. Hah. Take that you racist fucks.

Also the Nazis had awful problems with their tanks and communications because electrical engineering had been considered a Jewish science, the UK snapped up a ton of Jewish mathematicians for their code breaking project because pure math was considered a lesser scene at the time to which Jews were relegated, and also the US got Einstein from the Nazis because he was Jewish, and yeah the long story short is that we collectively had enough examples of the Nazis shooting themselves in the intellectual dick because of their racism to share stories for hours.

I realize this is a hot topic right now and Ive said my piece but then I go and look and see quite a few people saying how they don’t disclose and they don’t believe they should have to because it is their partner’s responsibility to ask them and use protection. And that apparently all of us who believe in disclosing 100% are just bitter towards the person who gave it to us.

Um yeah not even close. I don’t blame the guy who gave it to me at all. He had no clue you could give someone genitals herpes just because you have had a cold sore before. I didn’t either at the time. We were equally at fault.

But when you are aware you have an STI and still decide not to disclose, that’s what I find to be disgusting. And I’m not talking about the one time you forgot or were drunk, because everyone fucks up, we are human. I’m talking about the people who consciously decide “yeah that person isn’t worth disclosing to, they should have asked me and its obviously their fault for not knowing that condoms don’t protect you 100% from all STIs” I’m sorry but if that is your mentality that is incredibly selfish. That is such an easy way for you to take the blame off of yourself. Its a scapegoat and its pathetic.

You aren’t responsible for your partner’s sexual health but you do have the responsibility to be a decent fucking human being and allow your partner the option of consent. And with that it helps educate more people!

Basically, don’t be a selfish prick just because you want an orgasm. Yes herpes is common and yes its not a big deal for most, but it is for many. There are people who kill themselves because they are diagnosed with herpes. The fact that some people are okay with possibly putting someone through that without their consent is absolutely disgusting.
