On the day of Dick Cheney’s death, I’m thinking about a lot of horrible consequences of his actions, but I’m also thinking about Lauren Hough telling Dick Cheney to waterboard her “if it makes him feel better” when she repaired his cable.

I am super against light pollution, and have been for decades
but I am also super annoyed by the way it's framed as "without light pollution you can see how beautiful the night sky is" way more prominently than it's framed as "hey, did you ever stop to think of how much energy/resources/money are literally wasted by having so much light shine up into the sky?"
so people get the idea that light pollution can only be remedied by eliminating all night-time light, which would make being outside at night very inconvenient, instead of by making night-time light shine only on the ground where, y'know, the people who need it are
The mildest example of what OP's talking about in Dunedin, Aotearoa:
This is just with the streetlamp equivalent of using lampshades. Imagine what truly directional city lights could achieve?
Reblogging this again cause light pollution actually have negative health affects on humans and wildlife. We weren't meant to live in a world constantly bathed in light.
Nobody ever talks about the fact that heavy metal basically only exists because of a disability
For context: the reason metal sounds the way it does is because Tony Iommi, guitarist of Black Sabbath, lost his fingertips in a factory accident. Doctors told him he would never be able to play again, so he spent months burning down plastic and covering it with leather to essentially create new fingertips. Of course, he still couldn't play in the same way, so he downtuned his guitars and found new ways to play parts that made them sound even bigger and heavier than before, and that's how the sound of heavy metal was created!
Not to use him as inspiration porn but it really is incredible that an entire huge genre exists not in spite of but specifically BECAUSE of a disability
I don't think it's a radical ideal for the want of Hawai'i to become their own independent country. It should have never been taken over by the US in the first place. For a country whose entire foundation is based upon "separation from a colonial country" it's laughable that they made an entire population that was self governed into a state. It's insulting. It's already blatantly obvious that this whole country was based on lies and blood, and it only continues to perpetuate that. I'm shocked that the Hawai'ian sovereignty movement isn't mainstream even though they have been fighting for it since 1997. Fuck the American government.
Ever since the US overthrew the Hawaiian monarchy in an illegal coup, Native islanders responded with protest, activism and expressions of c

i’ve warmed up significantly towards the concept of small talk ever since i learned that its sole purpose is to make friendly noises.
as long as you smile and nod, people are satisfied. it’s just to show that you are nice and there with good intentions. we’re small in a big world and have to rely on other people to be decent to us. so we do our little human dance to each other to say, “i’m not here to hurt you. here’s something we have in common, like the weather or sports or itchy sweaters, so we both know we’re on the same team. we both agree on a basic fact, like that it is rainy or that being itchy is uncomfortable, and this proves we can get along. i’m being light-hearted and non-threatening right now.”
small talk isn’t to get to know a person. it’s just a greeting to affirm you’re buddies in the universe.
i am motivated by wanting the other person to know i am friendly, so i have gotten pretty decent at small talk when i used to hate it.

Justin posted the 1956 house he and his wife bought in Jasper, Indiana. It is a complete time capsule. Absolutely NOTHING has been updated or touched.
Everything is still here- look at the appliances. All original. This is not like the classy expensive updated mid century homes we’ve seen before.
The furniture has to be the original pieces and sets the previous owners bought.
The wall hangings are aged.
This is an interesting piece, this bar.
Look at the bathroom- pink fixtures.
Those lamps!
The master bath has a yellow tub and fixtures.
A 2nd bdm. Even the bedding is vintage.
And, this bath has blue Fixtures. Wow, I would definitely keep them.
More cool lamps and original furniture in the knotty pine family room.
Wow, look at the built-ins in the office.
The lower floor.
The basement is cool- look at that floor! And, the TV. The bar is classic. I wonder if they were leaving any of this.
Off the rec room is a 2nd kitchen. A pink fridge!
And, there’s this room, too. Look at the stone wall.
for the love of old houses
I’m reblogging this just because it’s great reference. Who knows if i ever get the chance to draw a fifties living room?
@teatotally – please join me in whimpering with a strong need to go to there.
Wow, honestly this is the first time I’ve seen a pristine 50s house that made me go “Oh THAT’S why they made those choices”??? Like, you usually only see old houses looking VERY worn-down and kinda sad, but this looks like we time-traveled into the past when it was new and tidy, and suddenly some of those choices that feel odd today make SENSE, because while they were new and loved, the now-odd furniture and appliance colors and whatnot look NICE. It’s still an “outdated” style but it doesn’t look “old.” Very neat glimpse at history!
seriously, I’m looking at this and suddenly understanding my parents’ house.

the thing about being nonbinary is that you really do start to forget that other people have such strict walls around what is and isn’t allowed for genders. i thought we all agreed that we made that up. could you climb out of the cave real quick and feel the sunshine for a minute.
i think about this every day
