Sophia
âItâs not noble. Itâs desperate.â Sophia replied, looking at the other. The tale was sad and matched many of the tales sheâd heard from the pirates on the island. âAnd Lukaâs parents died. So did Charlieâs mother. So did Ramses. I know the extent of the list. Iâve heard their stories. I know Iâm lucky my family is still alive but it doesnât matter if I never see them again. Theyâre as gone to me as your mother is if Iâm on this island forever.â She was accustomed to being called selfish. It was a title pirates loved to thrown on royals without knowing them. âSo if itâs selfish of me to want to know my family is still alive, fine, Iâm selfish. But Iâm also not filled with hate because of grief. I wouldnât relish in causing otherâs pain just because I felt it myself.â
âObviously, or was the dripping sarcasm not noticeable?â Ale looked at the girl in complete astonishment. Her statement came from the naivety of someone who hadnât lost people close to them, who had never felt that loss or trauma. Who had never dealt with the after affects such things ensured. âYou have no idea what youâre talking about. Your parents arenât as good as dead because you canât see them, you have no idea how lucky you are!â Shaking her head, the Latina was almost amused at how idiotic it seemed to her. âI would give anything, literally anything, to have my parents out there alive, seeing them or not. Because what you feel right now, princess? Thatâs nothing compared to the agony that is losing your parents like I have, like any of us have.â Shaking her head, Ale rolled her eyes. âIâm not filled with anything because of my grief, I dealt with that a long time ago. I am filled with irritation because you people still donât get it and to be honest, I donât think you ever will and it will always be your downfall.â
