By week two, Bex was actually leaving her room. Usually it was when no one else was around, though. The quiet of the house thrummed loudly around her, which was always such an odd thing to think about, how loud silence actually was. Because nothing was actually quiet.

The fridge made noise constantly. The house creaked and groaned sometimes. Floorboards shifted under her feet as she walked. She could hear birds fucking chirping outside like little alarm bells, or hear people walking outside, rubber soles scraping on the pavement. It was all so fucking overwhelming, sometimes.

She wore ear muffs around to help with the overstimulation often. She could still hear mostly fine with them on anyway. It almost felt like a safety blanket to have them on, the pressure against her head helping to ground her when things all got to be too much. And it happened a lot. Being a newly born vampire meant everything was just so much all the time and Bex had never even been good at dealing with that stuff before she died.

So she kept mostly to herself and only came out when the house was empty.

She was digging through the cabinets, looking for Rohan's vegan cheese puffs when the knock on the front door came, muffled through the soft wool of her muffs.

Cautiously, she abandoned her search and slunk over to the door, peering through the look hole. A familiar face peered back at her. One she hadn't exactly thought she'd seen, even if they talked and texted a bit after their impromptu A Bao Time restaurant review. Bex tugged the door open only slightly, though, after contemplating not answering at all. But a small part of her didn't want to let the door go unanswered, and the questions that were sure to follow.

The chain lock kept the door from swinging all the way open and Bex looked at Emira through the crack. "Emira?" she asked, voice low but soft. "What-- what you doing here?"
