"Three New Lives For Electric Chair". 2015.

"Three New Lives for Electric Chair" (TNLEC) is an interactive arena with three "guided" processes. Taking form as an Entertainment System, Healing Device, and a Musical Composition, the physical results are the same regardless of presentation. An electric shock is sent to the user upon use of the devices, sounds emitted and created by the amplified chair and user are recorded and converted to image for later use. Presented before use is either a pamphlet, brochure, or program signifying different intention. These are a starting point and in no way a means to an end or instruction on interpretation. The literature contains the history of the electric chair, entertainment, alternatives to healthcare due to financial availabilities, body modification, unified energy, and a description of the devices. Most importantly, supplied with the given text is the waiver which is irrefutably necessary to use the devices regardless of interpretative persuasion. The waiver is the only universal text. There are no surprises, the devices are transparent as to show there is no hidden danger outside of what is described in the waiver. The first usage of the electric chair was a pleasant near religious experience, TNLEC intends to revive that and be available.

While in my studio devising a way to prank John Baldessari upon the dedication of his purchase of the C-Art Studio at CalArts, I overheard a tour guide showing investors around the block.

Tour Guide: As you can see here this is the Ed Ruscha Studio, this is the Jennifer Steinkamp studio, here is the Susan Steinhauser and Daniel Greenberg studio.

Investor:  Do you have to be an artist to have a plaque?

Tour Guide: No, Susan Steinhauser and Daniel Greenberg are not artists.

Investor: How much are they?

Tour Guide: $75,000.

Investor: Okay I want one.
