the worms twisting your gut when you have to ask someone to be your dancing partner

limbs wrapped around each other; tangled and secure

If the souls dreaming in the city below her became as lights in the blackness, they would very much be as awe-striking as the stars. However, her mind was swift to remind herself. There was not a single soul who breathed below, not anymore. She heard about the catastrophe; the names to name it were endless, some even prompted her laughter to ring through the chilly air as they crossed her mind.

Ah, but her humor subsided once more to a gentle calm. The evening was young, much younger than the ones before and after. A rare occurrence to witness, one she would undoubtedly share with a little one. Poor little soul, trapped in the apartment with no way of coming down. Although it raised some questions on the little one’s lifestyle, Ciana chose to not entertain them for the moment.

She exhaled, falling backwards until her back hit the standing roof of the building she was one. Ciana grimaced, almost gasping at the stone touching the bruises beneath her clothing. She raised a hand, attempting to count the stars until she needed to breath. Her voice began to falter rapidly, realizing how quick the evening sky darken. The green in her eyes dulled, losing its enthusiastic glow.

Ciana clasped her hands, within it, a small star directly above her. Her lips parted, letting out a faint whisper she could hear in her heart. “Please.” The cold breeze that swept her stole the word from her throat. Perhaps, it would even steal the dream tied to that mere, simple, word. “If there is truly divinity above us, please set me free.”
