I hate people misgendering the Among Us characters but I can mostly handle it. But what I REALLY hate is people specifically misgendering Black.
See, when people misgender the crewmates, it's usually based on the crewmates' voice actors. Black's voice actor is nonbinary. They've been out as nonbinary since before they started acting in anything- they came out at 16.
Misgendering Black based on their voice is also misgendering their voice actor, a real person, based on their voice.
It’s kinda crazy to me how the among us show has been out for like a day and people have already misgendered the entire cast. Like gender quite literally isn’t a thing in the show. Not one character is referred to by any pronouns other than they/them and people still don’t use the right pronouns💔

Bit of a stupid rant.
I really wanna get into the among us show because it looks really good, but I don't know if I can because all the characters are non-binary and I've already seen so much over-masculinising and over-feminising the characters just based on their voices not to mention the straight up misgendering that I don't know if I'm in the headspace to handle that.
Call me silly for getting upset over a cartoon based on among us of all things, but to me it feels like if you (general you) can't gender a non-binary character right, that shows that you don't take non-binary identity seriously in general because we all know you wouldn't be doing that it if they were a man or a woman.
I should be really happy and excited about this- I mean, a show with an entirely non-binary cast? That's wonderful. But idk. It just feels so disheartening to see people say things like 'well she sounds like a woman so I'm going to use she/her' because like. What does that say about how you view non-binary people in real life? Real non-binary people such as myself don't always have voices that are completely androgynous- in fact, I'd go so far as to say most don't.
I've filtered the tags on Tumblr for the sake of spoilers, but it's been more difficult to do that on Reddit and TikTok, and so far there I have seen nothing but misgendering. In addition, whenever someone tries to call out the misgendering they get hit with the classic 'It's not that deep' and similar. I really wanted to watch this show and get into the fandom because it seems like something I'd really like, but if this is how things are everywhere I'll likely not watch it purely for my own mental health. If someone could let me know if the fandom is better here on Tumblr that would be greatly appreciated.
This is probably quite a silly complaint but I just wanted to get my thoughts out there and see if anyone else is really disheartened and upset by this.
It is not a silly complaint at all, you are 100% correct.
We literally can't even trust people not to misgender fictional characters, there is no way we can trust them to actually put in more effort to care about us in the real world when we are actually at risk.
Not misgendering fictional characters is the bare minimum, but most people won't even do that, and it does say something very negative about them as people, and the society we live in.
It *is* that deep.
thank you. I think I needed to hear that. I was just so used to people being belittled for speaking out about this that I was worried people wouldn't take me seriously. It's nice to see so many people agreeing with me and speaking up about the misgendering (although unfortunate that it needs to happen at all).
my friend opened my eyes. this is actually peak. guys. you need to consider.
Dating an incomprehensibly large megastructure girl is interesting because she will send you pics of endless halls and chasms of impossible geometry on scales that threaten to break you fragile perception of reality in 2 taken from security cameras miles above the ground and then respond with something like ">///////////////////////////////<"
Some people might wonder why Purple saying White didn't sound right worked with "Green", until you realize that Green is just like Orange. The parasite that attached itself to Green's body can't help mimicking its host any more than the parasite that inhabited Orange's body could.
Orange was a rule-abiding corporate shill who treats MIRA HQ's protocols as law.
And Green was an eager-to-please intern who'd go above and beyond to do things without any mistakes.
We need to normalise toxic ships faster, I can't keep hearing about "problematic age gaps" and getting excited only for it to be two people in in their 20s.
I want to see a 20-something making out with a grey haired GILF, as is my right.

me: "oh wow the among us show has an entirely non-binary cast of characters but gave them stereotypically binary gendered voices! That's so cool as it shows that you don't necessarily need to sound a certain way for your non-binary identity to be valid! This means a lot to me as a non-binary person with a voice people typically associate with a binary gender!"
everyone else: "This characters sounds like a woman/man so I'm going to call them a woman/man. And no I'm not going to stop once you correct me."
me: :(
