Oare Marshes Nature Reserve Kent Coast AONB by Adam Swaine Via Flickr: One of the most popular bird watching reserves in the southeast and of international importance for migratory,overwintering and breeding wetland birds.It consists of 89 hectares of grazing marsh (one of a few left in Kent) with freshwater dykes, open water scrapes, reedbed, saltmarsh and seawall. Suitable habitat is achieved by the manipulation of water levels and livestock grazing.

Arriving from Africa in April, they reside almost exclusively in reedbeds to breed, and can be seen and heard through October before they migrate south for the winter.Listen out for the 'chattering' song of the reed warbler, while wandering the UK's lowland wetlands in summer. A small, brown bird, they are quite hard to see.

It also has brown feathers streaked with black on its wings and back, and a white belly.

It is owned and managed by Kent Wildlife Trust.The North Kent catchment area includes the Medway Estuary and Swale channel, generally known as the Medway Swale Estuary. Both are of national and international importance to wildlife and designated accordingly, most recently as Marine Conservation Zones. The freshwater tributaries of the catchment consist of four water waterbodies: the White Drain (nr Boughton-under-Blean), the Dry Valley south of Faversham (also known as The Westbrook), the Iwade and the Swale tributary at Lower Halstow (also known as The Libbet).
