Prison Abolition
ââIt has to do with needing to end it, needing more than temporary answers that always seem limited in addressing the long standing health issues within our community, and knowing there will never be an opportunity as long as prisons stand.ââ- Hari ZiyadÂ
When I was first learning about prison abolition, the one question I had was, what would we do with the violent abusers? Prisons itself are the problem of abuse. We need to fix the problem of abuse and violence in itself, but that will never be possible if prisons are still standing. Prisons, courts, our justice system let a abusers get away with their action, and on the their hand, they inflict more violence and abuse and it becomes a never ending cycle. Being an abolitionist means to uncover and fix these deeper problems in our society, instead of using prison as a short term problem fixer, because as long as prisons are around, there will be no solution to the deeper problems inflicted on our communities. The prison industrial complex itself thrives off of violence, so how do we expect this to be a solution for abuse?Â
Vintage poster of oscar winner Moonlight 2017
Moonlight depicts the storyline of what it means to be black and queer in a community that suppresses both identities. The journey of self identity and meaning leads to coming to the realization that in order to obtain true to oneself, you must let yourself be free.Â
âBlack lives have always mattered, we have always been important, we have always met suffering, we have always succeeded, regardless. And now is the time. I ainât waiting. I ainât waiting.â John Boyega at The Black Lives Matter protest in Hyde Park June 3rd 2020

Philadelphia, May 30, 2020
2020. we take the streets in unity of overthrowing the oppression structure of society. A structure that costs the lives of million. A structure that is set up to fail most and protect some. Change starts in the streets.Â

SARS also known as Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Nigeria is know for the inhumane treatment of citizens from the Nigerian police unit. Continuous Police Brutality has been inflicted upon the Nigerian citizens with torture and killings. If we are fighting the police brutality hear, it would be detrimental if we turned our heads to what is happening in Nigeria. END SARSÂ

BEYONCĂ BLACK IS KING (2020)
Black is King represents the beauty within the African culture; It represents taking back the narrative of what it means to be black, embodying self love and appreciation. Letting it be known that black is beautiful, black is royalty, black is King. Integrated within this film is astonishing visuals, music, fashion, art and dance that captures the essence of the enriched culture stemming from Africa.
âeverything you see exists together in a delicate balance. You need to understand that balance and respect all creatures. From the crawling ant to the leaping antelope ; They are all connected in the circle of life.â -Black is KingÂ
Afrofuturism. The definition is slipperyâitâs basically sci fi and fantasy with obvious African elements. Itâs BLACK PANTHER, but also Sun Ra, Basquiat. Itâs not blaxploitation though.
From Max Deryâs 1993 article: âAfrican-Americans, in a very real sense, are the descendants of alien abductees: they inhabit a sci-fi nightmare in which unseen but no less impassable force fields of intolerance frustrate their movements; official histories undo what has been done; and technology is too often brought to bear on black bodies (brandings, forced sterilization, the Tuskegee experiment, and tasers come readily to mind).â
(I usually donât feature photos that show fur products, for obvious reasons, making one tiny exception here though (image 4, by Swiss photographer, Patrizio Di Renzo).)

Inferiority and priority
Amiri Baraka is one of the most respected and widely published African-American writers. With the beginning of Black Civil Rights Movements during the sixties, Baraka explored the anger of African-Americans and used his writings as a weapon against racism.Â
In 1974, Amiri Baraka coined the term Afro-Surrealism to describe the work of Henry Dumas.Â
