Uhh, I’ve done some speedpaints before, but they’re a bit old now lol. 

So here’s a little tutorial of how I colour my eyes. I really don’t have a superset style for drawing and colouring them, since I just really like experimenting with different things. But I’ll show you my consistent process~!!

1.

We start with the eyes and their base eye colour. I tend to change certain characteristics of the eye shape, size, style, etc, depending on the character i’m drawing~

Then I add in some detail. I shade the top half into a darker shade and add a light coloured pattern in the bottom~ It’s really important that you shift the hue, because it makes it look more colourful and vibrant than just using a darker version of the normal eye colour!

Afterward, I add in the pupils. I usually make them round or oval-ish, but you can get away with any shape really~! Again, I use a darker, hue shifted colour. You can make it as dark or bright as you want, depending on how pronounced you want it to be. You can also make it a completely different colour from the base eyes colour!! But make sure it’s still noticeably there, since we usually don’t want it to blend in with the rest of the eye.

Next, we make them interesting. I like adding in bright, contrasting colours all over the eyes to make it more colourful. I tend to just add in blobs of them, but I also sometimes make shapes depending on the character’s personality, quirks and interests. Sometimes I go overboard with them, but it’s probably best to show in restraint if it becomes too busy~ ;;;

Lastly, we make it all shiny!!! Again, you can make any shape you want as the highlight. Usually, I just make it large enough to touch the pupil, but the size can vary if you want~ Sometimes instead of just using pure white I put it on Add (Glow) filter, but it depends lmao. I also like to change the line art to match the colours surrounding it, I think it just makes it look more striking, but you can keep it black if you want!! This step is also where I just add in anything extra or new to complete the look I want it to have!

And we’re finished~!! I preface again that this is just what I most often do when I colour my eyes, I tend to change things a lot depending on the drawing. I sometimes just do more simple ways of colouring and drawing them if I feel like it lol.
