I truly appreciate Ben and Jake Sisko's relationship shown in DS9. The way Ben kisses Jake on the cheek and his head & just hugging each other is just so great. Weirdly we don't see that in a lot of today's depiction of father/son relationships on TV. I see it a lot in father/daughter relationships on TV, but not much between a father/son. If I watched DS9 when I was kid, I may have had a better understanding of showing affection to others in a physical manner, not just with words or gestures. I feel like this is an aspect of DS9 that I may actually truly appreciate the most.

The Excelsior II was the Federation's next main-line warship, using their lessons learned from encounters with the Borg and the Dominion War. Although the original Excelsior-class was used in those conflicts, it was a ship of desperation, hopelessly outclassed by enemy ships. This new class had the most modern technology of the time, including quantum torpedoes, regenerative ablative armor, and a warp engine capable of warp 9.9. This ship, similar to the Defiant-class, was a dedicated combat vessel and was not well suited to peaceful duties.
