Pookan Language and Numeral System
In William Joyceโs book series, The Guardians of Childhood, the character E. Aster Bunnymund is an alien race called the Pooka. Here is my idea for the Pookan alphabet. If you like this idea and want to use it in a fanfic feel free to do so! Iโd be really happy if I got a link to a story this was used in. Iโd also appreciate it if a link to this post was somewhere in the story/note, just so others could use it if they wanted.
In the book series The Guardians of Childhood Bunnymund is a scholarly Pooka and isโฆobsessed with eggs. So I thought that maybe that obsession with eggs was a Pooka thing and not just a Bunnymund thing. Like, all Pookaโs are obsessed with eggs and egg shaped things. With this idea in mind I looked through the โSpecial Charactersโ found under โEditโ and looked for symbols that looked like the โegg plantsโ that Bunny has in the movie, trees, eggs, and Easter eggs.
The Pookan Alphabet consists of 26 individual letters and 7 pared letters.
A - a = แฌ ย B - b = ๊ฟ ย C - c = ๊ง ย D - d = ๊พ ย E - e = แจ ย F - f = ๊ ย G - g = ๊ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย H - h = ๊ญ ย I - i = ๐
ย J - j = ๊ท ย K - k = ๊ ย L - l = ๊ ย M - m = ๊ ย N - n = ๊
O - o = ๐
ย P - p = ๊ท ย Q - q = ๊ช ย R - r = ๊ฒ ย S - s = ๊ ย T - t = ๊ ย U - u = ๊
V - v = ๊ ย W - w = ๊ฉ ย X - x = ๊ฐ ย Y - y = ๊ ย Z - z = ๊ฐ
Ch = ๊ญ
Ph = ๊
Sh = ๊พ
St = ๊น
Wh = ๊ฒ
Qu = ๊
Er = ๊
E. Aster Bunnymund = แจ. แฌ๊น๊ ย ๊ฟ๊๊๊๊๊๊๊๊พ
As seen in the name above the โerโ in โAsterโ is translated to โ๊โ instead of having both individual letters โeโ/โแจโ and โrโ/โ๊ฒโ this ends up making the Pookan translation shorter than itโs English counterpart.
Whereas the name โJack Frostโ would only use individual letters to spell out the name as seen here; ๊ทแฌ๊ง๊ ย ๊๊ฒ๐
๊๊
The Pookan Numeral System consists of 9 โidentifying numbersโ. These numbers are used to identify the amount of an entire numberโฆ
0 = ๊ค
1 = ๊ง
2 = ๊ฉ
3 = ๊ฒ
4 = ๊
5 = ๊
6 = ๊
7 = ๊ก
8 = ๊ฟ
9 = ๊
As seen blow the โidentifying numbersโ are used to place a value on the number. The numbers between 10 & 20 are nonexistent in The Pookan Numeral System.
If a Pooka is recording the amount of aย โthingโ and the amount is closer to 20 than the Pooka will round to 20. Meaning that any amount from 10 to 14 will be written as 10 and any amount from 15 to 20 will be written as 20 in The Pookan Numeral System. This rounding is determined by how many more of the โthingโ is from 10.
A Pookan farmer is recording the amount of his flock/cattle. Lets say that the amount of the farmers flock/cattle is 17 (in the English Numeral System). The farmer counts his stock until he reaches 10 then he counts the others and reaches 7. The Pookan farmer then rounds the number to 20 because The Pookan Numeral System doesnโt have a number for 17 and 17 is closer to 20 than it is to 10.
