    NOT AGAIN.  living in new york had become somewhat of a problem over the past several years. things that josiah had only ever read in stories were beginning to pop up in the real world. superheroes, villains, aliens, all of it. and while on some level it was actually kind of COOL, what wasnât cool was when all this stuff began erupting and spreading CHAOS around the world. chaos in his own BACKYARD. apparently today was another one of those days because it took one child in his classroom to yell out before his attention was brought towards the GIANT SPACESHIP that was lowering itself in the not so far DISTANCE. not again. panic broke out immediately. between the teachers, staff, and students alike but it only took another half an hour or so before they were tasked with making sure students were handed off to worried parents as they began rolling in.
    but josiah was even more nervous than most. the news had been flipped onto every single television in the school, and soon enough the coverage of TONY STARK stepping into battle with these aliens ( alongside several other well known supers ) and josiah felt his heart SINK. he didnât know tony personally, but CONNOR. connor worked for stark. connor had worked for SHIELD, and the fear that heâd be asked or expected to get involved immediately had josiahâs heart rate sky rocketing. he pulled out his phone and dialed connorâs number â but NOTHING. met with the sound of a busy tone. no calls in, no calls out. either there was some sort of interference going on or everybody and their brother were trying to make calls out right now. probably the latter. Â
    luckily enough for him, a fellow teacher immediately recognized his excessive panic, and knew EXACTLY why josiah had something a little extra to worry about.   â go, josiah. â   wide and worried eyes looked up in their direction, frozen and unable to move.   â go. we can handle this. â   and thatâs all he needed because then he was RUNNING.
    the trip from the school back to the apartment was QUICK. even dangerous as josiah did anything and everything he could to get there as fast as he could. and yes, he probably broke about a dozen driving laws, but he didnât CARE. he needed to get home. he NEEDED connor to be there. but of course, as soon as he busted into the apartment it was empty. he checked every single room they had â once again faced with NOTHING. so he pulled his phone out once more, dialing his fianceâs number over and over and over again, constantly moving to the window to check for any signs of the other male.   â come ON connor, where are you. donât do this to me, come on. â
working for shield, heâd seen plenty of things. chased after all sorts of crap around the world. he thought heâd been doing good, and perhaps he did, to an extent, but ever since itâd been revealed all that time spent was working under the hands of hydra, heâd grown a little lost. josiah, however, he helped him sort it out, tried to guide him, accompany him even if he was floating aimlessly through the sea. he still hasnât quite figured it all out, but he does know tony stark has been trying to be a hero, trying to do that good heâs been chasing after himself, so he decided to go work for him.
itâs not much, given itâs merely a security job, but with the news of some spaceship breaching the earthâs skies, hell broke loose. inhaling a deep breath and maintaining a collected demeanor, he realized heâd only get to go if he did his job. at that point, he helps guide people out and to safety, makes sure that everybody has a place to go. clears the facility for emergency protocol shutdown, just in case. his phone has been on silent the entire time due to job duties, unaware of the frantic missed calls. in the back of his mind, his brain echoes : josiah, josiah, josiah.
once everything is clear, he finally sprints all the way back home, carefully avoiding those running in the opposite direction, whether to or from danger. heart thuds uncomfortably and heavily, breaths laboured and dragging with every second as he finally makes it back to the apartment, busting through the front door without any care in the world, eyes darting around.
â josâ josiah? are you ... â  he struggles to catch his breath, kicking the door shut behind him as he steps forward, chest and shoulders heaving, eyes wide. itâs a messy stumble across the room to the man by the window.
