“Wow, alright Addie, sorry that I didn’t want to tell him something I didn’t agree with. Just fuckin’ bring him with, it’s no big deal. Fuck.”

“Why are you getting upset with me? I agreed with you?”

“You’re the only one that’s having these conversations with him because you’re the only one that wants it this way! He’s sixteen, Adelaide, let him mistakes that’s how he learns that’s how he grows up. I just wanted to leave him at home for the summer, you’re the one that wants him to have supervision so you’re the one that’s going to tell him that, not me, I refuse to tell him what I don’t want in the first place.”

“If you trust him so much, fine. It’s not something I’m willing to argue about with you. I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to have his girlfriend over here anyways, so alright. You can plan this vacation though. Let’s see what sort of surprises you can come up with.”

“I don’t blame you for being protective of him and I will respect any decision you make, I just don’t want to be around when he’s told that he’s going to have a baby sitter all summer.”

“I can;t be the only one who has these conversations with him, Adam. I need your help. You want this to be just us, help me with the parenting, I don’t always want to have to be the bad guy.”

“He’s sixteen Addie, he’s more than old enough to be by himself for the summer. I mean, it’s not like we have to worry about him running away, he has it made, where would he go? You think Andy and KJ were wrong for leaving Scarlet alone? If you don’t want to leave him alone, it’s your job to tell our sixteen year old son that you’re sending him to the babysitters, I’m not touching that, he’s gonna explode.”

“I know he’s sixteen, I remember having him. I think I’d know how old he is. I just don’t think he should be left alone all summer long. I mean I trust Kandy with him, so I don’t mind them taking care of him if it came down to it, but I just don’t want him here by himself. Call me protective.”

“Oh well I was kind of hoping that it could be just you and me. I know that I have some work to do with Nathaniel, but I would have liked to start with getting back to us first. But it’s okay, yeah, we’ll find something we can do as a family.”

“Oh? Yeah okay, I wouldn’t mind that. What about Nathaniel though? I mean we can’t really just leave him home alone. Not that I don’t think he can handle it--but I’m not Andy and KJ. I don’t like the idea of leaving our sixteen year old alone for that long. So who can we leave him with? Because I love the idea of being able to be just your wife, and not a wife and mother.”

“Maybe I used the wrong words. We don’t have to rekindle, we have to reconnect. I’ve been away for so long I think it might be great for the both of us.”

“Okay, but I hope you know it’s going to be nearly impossible for us to get our son to leave his girlfriend while we go on vacation, because I don’t want to leave him here. So what are we going to do about that?”

“I think that you and I really need to look into taking a vacation. We need to rekindle our flame and you need to start relaxing a bit more.”

“Rekindle? I wasn’t aware you and I were having issues..I mean yeah, I wouldn’t mind taking a vacation. I mean I miss you something terrible, so I’d be more than willing to plan something for us.”

“It would be nice to have more than just Nate with you. I know you’ve pretty much raised Dusty and Gio as your own but I see the way you look at Nate, there’s a bond with him that you don’t have with the others, not saying that you’re not close to them or your treat them differently because you don’t… I really hope you know what I’m trying to say.. We should talk to him.. but I don’t see the harm in trying to have another baby.”

“Oh I love Gio and Dusty like they are my own. I could never just not love them, but I understand what you’re trying to say. It’s different when you have a child. Go through carrying them and everything. You know, with how often he bleaches his hair blonde, I can’t tell you how many people ask me if he’s really yours. I just cant help but laugh at that.”

“Can we handle another baby? I mean, I’m not getting any younger. How is that going to make Nate feel? It’s a lot to talk about but it’s a conversation that I would like to have. I just want to make sure it’s a good decision for the both of us.”

“Why wouldn’t we? I mean we are up there in age, and it would be challenging to actually make it happen, but I think it would be worth it. Maybe we should talk to him about it? I mean if it happens, it happens.”

“Yes, this means that you’re going to get me a lot more, I don’t want to be away from you anymore. It’s been long enough so it’s time for me to get back into us, back into being with my family.”

“I think I want another baby. I know we already have three, but now that Nate is getting older, I don’t know...I miss having a small little one in my arms. Would you be opposed to that?”

“I know you would. Nate and I will get to that point eventually, I just need to show him that I’m going to be around more, that’s all he needs. I wish you would have told me sooner how much you needed me to be home, you know I would have dropped everything to be with you. I wouldn’t object to kissing you right now.”

“I know you will, it’s just going to take time. Does this mean I’m going to get my lovely husband a lot more? Because if so, I think I’m going to be a tad bit selfish, and stop with the PTA meetings for a while. I need time with you, and I can’t do that if I’m always with them. With Andy. Well I’m telling you now.”

“You could never drive that boy away, he worships you. You’re his best friend. I wish that I was around more for it too, I know that I missed a majority of his teenage years but I’m going to start making up for that, you reminded me just how much he needs both of us, not just his mom. Yes, I would love a date night with you. We’re talking about our sons love life, it’s only fitting we nurture ours tonight.”

“I’m glad you don’t think so. I love that boy so much, I’d do anything for him. I just hope you’ll be just as much his best friend as I am. I’m glad you saw that he needed you..that I need you. Oh baby, you and I don’t need to nurture our love. Our love is as strong as ever. Though I wouldn’t object to a kiss right now.”

“He talked to you about it and that is more than most mothers get, that shows your son trusts you.You know, we went out this morning, he met me for breakfast and the last thing he said to me was ‘I hope I have a love like yours and moms’ you have nothing to worry about baby, you raised that boy better than anyone could have ever thought. You and me, our love, that’s what he admires, that’s what he wants and I am so happy that we’re able to set that standard for him. Don’t think about him being intimate with her, you’re just going to drive yourself crazy. Trust that you raised him smart enough to know better.”

“I suppose you’re right. I’m trying not to hold on to tightly, I don’t want to be that person. who drives him away by how tightly I’m trying to hold on. You did? Well that warms my heart. I just wish you were around more for it. Don’t get me wrong, I loved seeing you up on that stage, but I feel like we missed out on a lot when he was growing up. Nate isn’t supposed to be home tonight, so why don’t we have a date night? We haven’t had one in such a long time.”

“Okay, let’s slow you down because your mind is in overdrive and I can’t keep up. It’s very possible that they’re moving to fast, they haven’t been together that long, but if we start trying to tell him that he needs to slow down, what’s the first thing he’s going to do? He’s going to talk about me and you. He knows that we pretty much went pedal to the metal right out of the gate. Getting hurt is a part of life. What I want for my son is to experience life the best he can, I want him to fall in love because it’s a great feeling.”

“I’m sorry, love. I just--my mind has been reeling since he talked to me last night. Though I know you and I had a whirlwind romance, so I can’t blame him. I think it’s in our blood at this point. We fall fast, and we fall hard. I mean you’re the best thing to ever happen to me. I’m worried he’s going to end up getting her pregnant. I mean it’s only a matter of time before they sleep together at this rate.”

adam: I'm on my way home, how about I run you a bath when I get there and make you some of that tea that you like to help you feel better? Are you in pain?
