Her public defender is deliberately deadnaming and misgendering her despite her already having her legal name changed years ago. She is being kept in a men’s jail. Clearly her attorney is deliberately acting against the interests of his client. There’s gotta be something more we can do
Here’s said lawyer’s info, I haven’t verified it’s the same person but given his name is the same and I didn’t have to type “lawyer” or “attorney” for him to show up, I think it’s safe to conclude it’s the same person
I'm one of Meagan Morris' partners and there's a couple things we've been trying to do about her shitty lawyer:
It's possible, but difficult, to file a complaint against a public defender for being openly hostile or unprofessional in treating their defendant, in order to request a new public defender from the county. Replies like the one he gave above are great evidence that he should not be assigned to someone that he's openly bigoted against. (I've got multiple emails he sent to me that are similar in tone, so I'm not surprised he's sending hateful emails instead of doing his job as a lawyer)
similarly, any emails like this can go into a complaint to the Texas state bar, which we plan to file as well. Luttrell has been reprimanded before for not representing his clients when he was legally required to, so any formal complaints will help.
the fundraiser OP linked is intended for hiring legal defenses for Meagan and the other protestors who were arrested, if we have enough we could hire a competent lawyer and no longer have her fate in the hands of a lazy bigot who still hasn't met her in person.
Just to note, that the legal definition of libel/defamation in Texas is a written false statement to a third party that defames the plaintiff and has a requisite defree of fault regarding the statement's truth, and caused damages. Which this situation seems to fit completely! Some people should probably report him to the State Bar

I’m not sure how it would come into effect, but there may be a case to make about possible incompetence towards the rights of his clients and how he represents them.

And with that, he headed for the bathroom door.
The water hissed steady behind the door, steam curling under the crack. Chris stood there a moment, palms sweaty, heart pounding in his throat. He could walk away. He should walk away. This wasn’t his lane.
But rut brain didn’t care about lanes.
He shoved the door open.
Adrian spun, soap dripping from his fingers, eyes wide and startled. For the first time all day, he looked genuinely shocked, mouth parting like he’d been caught in something. The sight made Chris’s chest clench. Shit. Too far. Abort. Abort.
He almost stepped back. Almost stammered out something about towels or checking the water pressure.
Then Adrian shifted, water slicking down his chest, eyes blown wide, lips parted—and Chris’s rut roared louder than any second thoughts. Between one breath and the next he was in the shower, crowding into the spray, pressing Adrian back against the cool tile with a wet smack.
Adrian gasped, still wide-eyed, and Chris’s gut twisted hard—until he hoisted him up by the thighs and crashed their mouths together.
